Having recently bought a nice Triple Black 1200 from Bahnstormers I'm wondering what the black gizmo on the exhaust between the cat and the silencer is. It has two cables going to it

Thanks

its a valve to help with noise/emissions,but david a search would have turned up the answer for you as it has been discussed many times before:thumb

xtra weight?yea right yer gonna notice the difference if you remove it on a gs:rolleyes:

? Are you saying it's not extra weight?

Well a GS is relatively light compared to a lot of 1000cc+ bikes, and stripping 10kg off it, by changing a few bits like this, along with a Ti full system will make a difference. Of course you could always loose a few pounds yourself.

You may not notice the weight in isolation, but it gets on my tits when manufacturers put unwanted crap like this on a bike!

of course it weighs something, but on its own not that much, now all of a sudden your putting on a full titanium system!.and by the way im quite trim actually although my scales insist on saying north of 13 st:D

you dont need to jam it open, disconnect the cables and electrical plug and it will be open all the time,no light on dash but diagnostics will pick up a fault code

does this make it louder or quieter

Check out the Eliminator tube thread in here, it works well if you want rid of the flappy valve, and it's cheap if Gordon has any more.

IMO it's nothing more than a cash cow, guaranteed to seize outside of warranty and need replacing at owners expense.

Bin it.

It is quieter at low revs with the flap, but no difference from around 3 and a bit k imo.

I took it off and added new headers and end can - much lighter, and quicker pick up - best mod I've had done was getting rid of the Cat.

Annoyingly - if I'd known, I'd have bought an older full system for much less (much better prices for 08-09 Akra stuff (and even earlier systems from 04 onwards will fit - we have had a Laser system on an 04/08& an 12 twin cam), as this will replace the exhaust and the flap in one go,but with the exhausts for the twin cam, you need an eliminator tube.
