I've got a 2610 fitted to a Migsel mount. Now need to hard wire it up for power. I've read on here different people advocating going straight to the battery, others taking power from the back of the aux. socket. Question One: does it matter which?

For those times when GPS unit is removed from the bike, will the feed wire (the bit that 'plugs' into the unit) be live? ..... I guess yes. Does it matter? and what about the prospect of rain on the live contacts of the lead end! :eek

Last numpty question ...... when Unit removed, any solution to prevent the power lead waving about it the wind?:(

any and all advice welcomed :thumb2

not really. i wire mine to the battery 'cos i don't want it shutting down every time i turn off the ignition. i suppose on a 12 this would not be such a problem if wired to the aux skt. as it stays live for a few minutes.

yes

Does it matter?

doesn't seem to. i have that setup on three bikes & have never blown a fuse (i do carry a spare).

doesn't seem to matter. i use a bit of silicone grease on the contacts.

i put the supplied cover on the flying lead and tie it up somewhere with velcro tape.

Cookie, thanks very much for that ....... (pending any comments to the contrary;)), can now see the way forward! Course the next problem is going to be working out just how to use the dammed thing! :thumb

mine is wired through the aux socket with a hella type fitting, it works great for the utimes i use it.

No problems to fit either, my wire stays attached all the time and is zip tied to the bar at the back of the dials to keep it in place

If you are using the standard Garmin bike bracket you just push the plug into the holder that's moulded into the bracket.

I did not like the Garmin bracket so changed to a Touratech. That has a holder for the plug as well - pklus a dinky stylus for use on the touch screen

Sorry, can't post a piccy but not really needed. If you are using a standard Garmin bike mount there is a recess on the right hand side which just happens to be the same shape and size as the power plug.

Similar with Touratech mount the bit of ali on the right with a plug shaped bit of plastic screwed to it is the plug holder.

If you are using the RAM 2610 mount you are stuffed. That does not have a plug holder.
