Nuts and bolts....and exhausts.

As well as doing a 24k service this weekend with the East Anglian gang, I'm also trying to fit a Wudo exhaust lowering bracket.

Forgive me not searching the site, I'm at home on dial up , but I'm after any tips to help with undoing the nut where the can attaches to the cat. I cannot get the thing to budge even after copious quantities of rustola poured all over the thing. To make matters just that bit worse I did manage to remove the bolt holding the can to the footrest but after admitting defeat with the nut I find that I can't tighten the bolt up enough, leaving the can to 'wobble'.

Fingers crossed the boys can help at the 24k service, but if anyone has any top tips in the meantime then I'd be happy to hear them.

Blowtorch did it for me, mine was stuck exactly the same.

Might be an idea as a last resort, though I'm not sure if I need it with the lowering bracket - the instructions didn't translate all that well you see

The best relase agent I've ever used is Chemaide. This stuff eats rust. Dunno where you'd buy it from though, but if you can get hold of a can, its well worth having a can in the garage/shed for when jobs like this come up.

Looks like it can be bought direct in cases of 12 cans. Back to heat and brute force then

Sounds like you might have stripped the threads on the footrest exhaust hanger too, quite easily to do apparently. Apart from pointing that out I'm no help whatsoever, sorry

There is some good news on this one. I went over to Polarbears rather marvellous garage/workshop this afternoon, and we had a bash at it there. He's just been in touch to say that after I'd left for home he had another go at it and got it to turn, so with luck I'll get the Wudo kit on there tomorrow too

The Wudo kit went on with the minimum of fuss, cheers to the East Anglian gang who also helped do the 24k service on my 1150GS. The lowered can does leave a gap between the heat shield and the can itself but that's a small price to pay for having the luxury of a full size l/h pannier.
