Nuvi 600 - other than RAM kit, whats is needed?

Hi All,

I have read loads here this evening but still am not sure what to do.

I have a garmin Nuvi 660T ( I think) maybe a later 660 series, have to check.

My questions is, other than the RAM mounting kit, what do I need to purchase to power it and protect it from the weather?

Be gentle, I am new to this GS scene and collecting my bike at the weekend but just wanted to know should I just buy a bike specific Sat Nav or can I use what I have in the car?

The Nuvi 600/660 is not waterproof and isn't really suited for bike use.

Question answered. Just though that amid the myriad of accessories available that a waterproof case would be out or something.

You may be able to get a waterproof case - I just don't know what is available in that respect.

But there are plenty of bike-friendly GPS units available, I would have thought that one of those might be a better place to start - not that it rains much in Ireland!

Hein Gericke catalogue has some nice little waterproof sat nav cases that fit either on the handlebars or on top of a tank bag - worth a look and they have a 20% off deal running at the moment

The problem with the Nuvi 660 (a fine piece of kit in my car) is that the antenna has to be opened out, thus precluding an Otter box or similar. Givi and others offer tank bags to carry a sat-nav but watch out for the viewing angle when the sun shines. You don't say which motorcycle you have but a Nui 660 on an R1200GS needs a RAM-HOL-GA23 and a RAM-B-149ZA according to a thread I started in June last year. The Nuvi 660 comes with a GTM21 traffic receiver but any power lead with a mini-USB plug should do. DO NOT wire a USB plug to the battery as it will destroy the unit instantly. As has already been stated, the Nuvi is not waterproof, but if you search YouTube for long enough you'll find a clip from a Japanese guy who uses a condom to keep the rain off.

Thanks all, I just checked and its actually a Nuvi 770, I couldnt remember as I had two at one stage (one work owned ad 770 was my own)

It will be going on an 1150GS if I can sort it out but I know very little of using them on a bike but I have all the latest maps on this so it seems a shame if I have to purchase a new unit for the bike as well.

Really appreciate all the info and I am sure this has been asked so many times before, so thank you for your patience.

Nuvi 770 onto 1150GS, my 2p FWIW..


Cradle for Nuvi 770 is RAM-HOL-GA26 and picking up on Bear's reply, same mount RAM-B-149Z or short arm RAM-B-149ZA onto handle bars.

Migsel's speedo bracket (has RAM-B-236) with short arm RAM-B-201-A and diamodn base RAM-B-238 and cradle RAM-HOL-GA26 or just get short arm mount RAM-B-149ZA and attach u-bolt onto handlebars as alternative or for camera mount base point.

Other thoughts for GS1150 .. fluid reservoir cover RAM-B-345, or 346, twit-n-tilt, RAM-B-360 or yoke cap socket screw, RAM-B-367.
