Once the trail riding dust has settled after this Saturday's Llangollen do, I'll have a few days spare, and was thinking of a quick France/Belgium trip.... but a couple of the apprentices in work have suggested the Northwest 200 road racing week.
So,the question is, is it worth the visit?
I'm looking at travelling over alone with my GS, tent and a few bob for a bevvy or two.
Not looking to get bogged down by booking camping, etc, so is it possible to turn up on spec and access campsites.
Any hints, tips or info will be gratefully received as I'm looking to do it on the cheap rather than use the info given on the organiser's website.

Regards.

Timpo.

im sure there are caravan parks up that way where you can get a place for a tent. the nw200 do have their own campsite provisions for bikers. personally i think it is a bit foolish not booking ahead for a campsite cause there will be thousands of bikes and people who will have travelled looking accommodation. it is the one day of the year that cars give up the roads to bikes cause there are that many of them!

other than that there maybe campsites in bushmills or towards portballintrae.

there are some official campsites along the course - a google search will bring them up - 'caravan sites portrush'.

being in chesire im sure u can get the boat from liverpool to bfast saves alot of miles and time.

nutt travel.com are worth trying for ferry fares.

if you havent been before it is worth a visit to 'redefine' the word 'fast' . if one's biking mates think they are fast.........they probably arent really compared to the lot who race next week. how they dont lose their bottle between lamp posts and driveway walls is beyond me.

im going to the nw200 next week........im riding up from the south of england so i'll have done 500miles by the time i get to portrush!

im sure there are still spaces for tents in the caravan parks.

hi the offical camp site for the nw200 is blairs caravans ltd
there no is (028) 70823537
i would recomend u book campsite
with many other road races cancelled this year here in ireland
the nw200 will b very busy
you will enjoy the racing if you come over

There's a wee campsite at Dunseverick harbour a couple of miles west from the Giant's Causeway. It is located off the b146 and comes to an end at the harbour. Don't know if there is a fee, if there is i'm sure it wont be much. There is also a wee spot at Murlough Bay, west of Ballycastle, again right at the end of a small road-remote but nice.

Worth it?

Yes, yes and yes again!

Head up the Antrim coast road and enjoy every mile! The official web site is a good starting point for the routes and things to see and do. There are camp sites at Benone strand, Castlerock, Portballintrae, as well as all the well published ones.

Bushmills has an excellent youth hostel, as well as the Distillery, with some good off street parking in the courtyard.

Northern Ireland tourist board web site is good too.

I would definitely book some sort of accommodation, it will be busy.

If you get some decent weather it will be awesome.:aidan

Well worth the trip. 5 of us going from North Wales & staying in Bushmills. Did the same 2 years ago and had a fantastic time. Ferries booking up quick - we could only manage to get on the late ferry back on Sunday from Dublin - Holyhead and we booked months ago. Do it! :D

+6 for bushmills wed night from liverpool theres a campsite near the distilary where some mates that cant get in where we stay:aidan
im going on my aprillia dosoduro (red /white )think it will be good on the roads round there
