Big campaign, just started today..........................emphasis particularly against speeding bikers

The Helicopter will be up too, recording you from the air

Im sure there is somebody on here who can tell me :::
How much does it cost to keep a Police Helicopter in the air.:nenau:nenau

I knew it would boil down to the fkin cyclists.:rob:blast

In my day (lad) when they first came in the cost was quoted at £500 an hour. My more current informant ( Magnet ) says they quote around £1,500 an hour. Prices include 3 staff including pilot, fuel, depreciation, and servicing which is quite costly.

But don't worry too much. That helicopter will cover several Police Forces and have 24/7 responsibility. It won't be spending much time hovering looking for speeding bikers unless you're a complete a*se and ask for trouble.

Ground based speed cameras are more likely to trouble the average speeding biker hooning in the obvious accident blackspots:eek:

A more reasonable question might be "How much does a fatal accident cost"...

Then maybe the should devote as much effort to catching those using mobile phones whilst driving. The biggest cause of accidents is not paying attention-how can you be paying attention with a bloody phone in your ear? As for those texting whilst driving maybe they could use the police helicopter to drop them into the North Sea.

Was at squires this afternoon... got a shock when i come out from under the bridge and seen NY polices fleet sat there.

lorry and all sorts there ITV and everything...... lot of very un happy chaps having arguements with plod.....blokes waiting round till they went cause they had their baffles out...was quite funny.....alot of young lads there today on some serious machines (early 20's) getting on like twats... clearly plod had gone at that point......

there is clearly a rise in accidents i've had 4 enquires this week for accident investigations and speed related incidents in Yorkshire area......

it was a typical show of strength for the tele though

Dave BARF - really???
:barf:barf

Maybe if they spent a chunk of the money teaching rice warriors how to ride responsibly all this wouldn't be so necessary and opinions about plod's attitude to speed wouldn't be so divided...

I am sure you can but it takes some restraint and if I am honest that is a bit of a worry

To be honest it is, this year they have increased the camera vans from 4>8 IIRC & these new 4 don't even need the rear window flipped open, they have cameras that can shoot through the glass I think

So the camera technology is getting ever more sophisticated & probably with greater range

In N Yorks the Vans are using loads of different spots on the same bit of road & vary it all the time - so it's difficult to second guess it

There was one out at 8.30pm near Helmsley last Sunday - so they are out all the time til dusk in summer

The only rule of thumb is stick rigidly to the 60 mph limit on all A & B roads now & still have a bit of fun on the small roads - however, I seen the Van once or twice on some pretty minor unclassified roads too - so they are targeting those too :blast

You're right JB, one of them was sat at the side of the Leyburn to Middleham road the other day looking at vehicles coming from the bridge.

They don't hide on the small back roads in Hampshire & West Sussex :rob:JB

It pisses me off that the cops get all the toys (and boy do they love playing with them) paid for by the government but the Air Ambulance service has to rely on charity :blast Sick as feck that is
