NY Police _ Operation Aegis against speeding

It pisses me off that the cops get all the toys (and boy do they love playing with them) paid for by the government but the Air Ambulance service has to rely on charity :blast Sick as feck that is

Shiny black unmarked BMW X5 (I think) hooning in to York yesterday, blue lights behind the grill.....

Rule of thumb = £1,000,000 per fatal.

1 million, fuck my old boots you can get someone killed down here for around grand less if you use a foreigner.....

(or so I was informed by a TV program from London)

The only rule of thumb is stick rigidly to the 60 mph limit on all A & B roads now & still have a bit of fun on the small roads

Everyone should ride airheads.. It takes forever to get past 60 mph, and the brakes remind you not to go any faster than your boot soles can stop you!:D

I saw a camera van on the A170 last Sunday, fortunately I was keeping to the speed limit, due to doing a recce for a Coast to Coast run on sub 100cc bikes in September, so travelling at the expected pace!

Not the Boundary 500 moped run is it ?

Is it just me that finds it ironic that if you do take them up on one of their Bikesafe type schemes they expect you to "make good progress" when on national limit A roads so they can see how you ride. Admittedly your not expected to hit 140mph but anything up to 80 is tolerated then with their other hat on the next day the same riding style would get you get 3 points and a 60 quid fine????

I love that they have these "operations" because obviously it means all violent crime, theft, vandalism etc has been eliminated?

:beerjug:

They're usually reacting to public concerns - loud pipes and speeding bikes are not popular amonst the public at large...

My understanding from folk who work on the Air Ambulance is that they choose to remain under charitable status so they stand seperate from the NHS Amb trust. If they were part and parcel of it they'd be subject to the same cuts process as Police Helicopters...(down from something like 31 thru 23 to 15 in the coming years)
The oft quoted £1500 an hour would be true if you rang up to hire a twin engined one but the Police ones are already paid for, maintenance contracts are paid for and part based on dates (it's annual) and hours flown. Pilot and crew are paid whether they sit on their arses or go flying. I can see the headlines in the Daily Mail...£3 million for a helicopter that never flies.

As someone has already stated, it'll be a rare thing that a helicopter is used up in NY for speeders, ride like a bell end as it flies over and you may get spotted and dealt with.
