I have discovered that there is no way to easily - you know, at the press of a button - switch all that useful trip, range, average speed, la-la-la data from imperial to metric ... like you might want to when getting off a ferry or Le Shuttle ...

Apparently, your dealer can do it using their £10k GT-1 diagnostics thingy.

According to two BMW representatives I have spoken with I am the first person they have ever had ask for such a feature.

(My last GSX-R 1000 could switch between units at the press of a couple of buttons. Less data I know, but the principle is the same.)

Am I the only one who thinks this is something of an oversight?

Yes it should be simple - can do it on my Renault Scenic and on the wifes Falco but not on the GSA. Not something to loose any sleep over though :D

When I picked up my bike I assumed that pressing and holding one fo the buttosn should swap but it does not.

The dealer can though - I live in the US and wanted the air temp to be in degrees C and not degrees F but wanted everything else in miles and not kms.

It took them two minutes to change - I watched them do it and was amazed at the options.......they can change everything - for example my fuel consumption is in MPG......US gallons to be precise.

I agree it would be usefull to be able to swap easily between a couple of the more obvious ones though.

It is dead easy. The dealer can do it in his software setup menus. I requested the clock be changed from 12h to 24h - was no problem - same to for mls to kms - it is just a click of a button on his laptop - so any dealer who tells you 'aaah dunno guv' isnt worth his dealership.......

cheers

I think the point people are trying to make here is that changing from miles to kms is something that we should have the facility to do ourselves when getting of the ferry/shuttle, not something we should have to ask a dealer to do.

Well ... quite!

I know! Next time I'm off to Europe I'll call BMW Assist ... they can meet me at Calais with one of their GT-1 thingys and switch the units before I set off ... then they can meet me at Folkstone on my return.

No?

Reminds me ... I have to give them a call anyway, because a roundel has come unstuck from my dealer key fob ...

Would be a very nice facility to have. I've opted for setting my Zumo to kilometres whilst over the channel.

Used to be easy to do on my Triumphs digital speedo, although I never actually had to.

When will someone hack the BMW dealer GT-1 interface and start selling a DIY cable/software package so we can all do it for ourselves?
