Hi All
Ive just become the proud new owner of a 2005 1200GS taking delivery on Tuesday 30th September.
What a great site this is and has really helped me decide to go for it reading all of the excellent information offered by fellow owners
As a first proper post , Can I ask if anyone else has been totally dissapointed with the sales department at Plymouth Ocean?
I had visited several times and on the occasion that I was serious about a purchase , I felt , maybe because I was wearing casual tracksuit attire , that the snob value was unbelievable from a particular salesman who obviously chose to decide that I would not be able to afford one!
The fact that I am a director of a million pound company with an income considerably higher than his did cause me some frustration , even though I normally never take that mindset.
After a conversation about the value of my proposed part exchange , which was totally ripped to pieces by another salesman , I can report that the p ex value offered was a staggering 1300 pounds less than three other multi franchise large dealers offered me , with none of them saying any thing different that my bike was in the condition that would be expected of a bike 4 years old and they would have no problems retailing it. For your info it was a Honda Deauville 2004 with 7000 miles.
I have to say that I can not believe the attitude of this dealership. One of total complacency and an attitude of being far superior than any other , the salesman also taking any opportunity to demean and "slag off" the other multi franchise dealerships in the Plymouth Area
I finally purchased my GS from Riders in Bridgwater who I have found Courteous , professional and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you to Gavin the salesman.
My only dilemna is finding a local , Plymouth/Devon BMW specialist that I can use for service and repairs
Any Ideas folks?
I look forward to using this site in the future
Jamie

Hi Jamie
Welcome to the site.
I'm in Okehampton and have had the same "look down your nose attitude" from them, but then again I am a scruffy git :augie
I recon Mike P will be along soon to advise you of a good BMW service place as he is based in Plymouth as well.

Sid Horman will no doubt be along to tell you how Ocean after relieving him of a large wad of cash still hadn't fixed a problem on his R1100GS.
He then took it all the way to LAHHHRRDAHHHN for the Great :bow St Eptoe to look at....
LO it was fixed, perfectly.
All hail the messiah :bow:D:D

You want to hear what Sid thinks of them :D

Oh and CW in Dorchester is a bit of a ride for you but a completely different experience.

Sorry that you've had a bad experience with Ocean.....:(
I've always found them to be friendly and courteous...they even wash my bike for me when I'm there.....:)
Just got my F650 Twin from them.....although Paul's still waiting to hear about a new helmet he ordered!!

Well, I brought my bike from Ocean nearly 2 yrs ago and had nothing but perfect service, they bent over backwards to sort my bike as needed modifications so as I could ride it. Bill in Parts dept always been good and service dept equal. I have nothing but praise for these guys. :thumb2

Mentioned to the guys at Ocean about your post and they were shocked and surprised they wondered if yours was the bike with the accident damage on the right hand side and the badly corroded engine casings?? :)

Your profile tells me you're a Sales Manager ... :nenau

Not me. I've had nothing but good experiences at Ocean.

Having decided that you don't like the sales team, why don't you give the after-sales a try and have your bike serviced there (at least once)?

If the after-sales lives down to your expectations, you can always try another dealer. Who knows, you may find that you save yourself the trouble of slogging up to Dorchester (or somewhere else). :nenau

Welcome too BTW. :thumb2

I picked up my new 08 GS less than a fortnight ago.
I have always found all the staff very courteous and helpful at Ocean. I am sorry that you had this experience.
As the previous post suggests give the after sales team a try they always been great for in my experience.

Director of a million pound company trading in a 2004 Deauville for a 2005 1200 and worrying about the trade in value

Hi again
Surely it does not matter what you are trading in for what
I am the same as the next man. All i expect is courteous behavior and a fair and good deal.
I control the sales side of our business and would not be happy if any of our employees did not show respect to potential customers.
The fact that I felt the customer service was so bad is the sole reason that I asked the question on this forum if anybody else received treatment that they did not feel happy with.
I will in fact give the after sales department a try to see if it is any better but I will state again that I was very disapointed with the way that my sales enquiry was handled by the sales team there resulting in me taking my business somewhere else

I was pleased with Ocean's service department when i visted on the way back from france. I got off the ferry at 0630 & was welcomed as soon as the staff arrived. I was made a brew by the workshop before the rest of the dealership opened & because of the service i received i will return there when i need a service next year on the way to france.

Service department - :thumb

I did however spend time around the showroom & meet the sales team & witnessed them dealing with customers & the sales mgr talking to his team during the morning. What i didn't like was the private talk about some customers after they left..... but i suppose that happen's in many work places. :nenau

Nab.

some you like some you don't, personally never had a problem with either part, I do however think things have gone down hill since Pete Armstrong(manager Bikes) left and is sorely missed.

I personally don't really rate CW's who every one raves about. Walking into a showroom with staff stuffing their faces is not a good imagine.

So really horses for courses, when i change i will talk to both and go with the best deal.

And they all read this stuff, some deny it but you can't help it with the amount of registered users here.

I have only ever heard and had great service from Ocean.

I went all the way to Ocean's to buy my bike as i had nothing but
"looking down the Nose" from CW's in Dorchester 2 visits and no help.
1 visit to Ocean 1 bike bought!

Great Dealership :thumb

Just up a new gsa from Ocean, the 3rd bike that I have had from them and I have nothing but praise for them. Always been well looked after, the after service side is spot on.

Hi G4
My bike has accident damage down one side??????
A 1 inch graze on the bottom of the pannier on the black plastic and a half inch scratch on the same side on the fairing!
They look minor scuffs against a garage wall perhaps while parking, and not at the same time, and as for badly corroded engine casing ....... I just dont see it and neither do any of the other dealers who have valued my bike
Its four and a half years old and in the condition you would expect
My view is that it is just the sales team ploy to offer bottom dollar and in the mean time the bikes they retail are at top dollar .. although I do not dispute that they would only retail bikes in first class order
I also question their professionalism commenting on another persons deal to you!?
I do thank you for your comments though and if you are in the Plymouth area feel sure we will bump into each other some time
You obviously have had good dealings with them and I respect that but I will stick to my guns that the sales team do not rate highly in my eyes and my 5k has gone 100 miles away unfortunately to a dealer who made me feel like an important customer
Also , can I say , great site and I look forward to using it to give and receive info and feedback now I have joined the ranks of being a proud GS owner!

Peter has popped up at SBW Motorrad in Hertford. I've had a few chats with him and he comes across as a decent chap.

Ocean

Bought my 07 gsa from Ocean Plymouth, despite having two main dealers within 50 miles of my home in Hampshire,I dont think I was taken seriously locally as I rode in on a Harley Electraglide looking to px ,no probs from Ocean.
