With the recent closure of Linds, Norwich, my nearest dealer and not really wanting to spend the day hanging around the Peterborough area ( and reading Mike O`s recent thread, just as well)I decided to book my Adventure in for its 6000 mile service at Ocean, Plymouth, last Monday. Not as mad as it sounds as most of my family live there, so I went for a few days. Booked at short notice via the service adviser Gerry SMITH, they lent me a R850R demo bike for the day, it even had a nearly full tank so I spent the day riding around the moors, familiar with those that have attended Princetown. Come the end of the day there was a slight problem in that they had found that they did not have a non abs modified rear brake pipe to fit, but with an express order ,was ready for collection by 0930 the next morning. Cost for 6000 service, plus annual service was a total of £159.98. There have been some moans about service costs and dealers recently but I thought this was very reasonable, particularly with the bike loan. They even picked up a wrongly routed speedo cable which was rectified, without charge. Nice people to do business with, ask for Gerry. I for one will be back.

All my experiences with Ocean have been good ones, particularly with Bill Stacy who is a bloody good bloke. I was on holiday in Devon last year doing some touring when I found that my Remus can was adrift from the rear hanger. I took it into Ocean (I think it was a Saturday so one of the busier days) - Bill came out to look at it and discovered that the stud had sheared and left the remains in the hanger. He put it in the workshop and gave me a virturally new Adventure for the day. I went back later and not only had the stud been extracted and replaced but he had also adjusted the hanger plate on the Remus so it no longer looked offset. Only charged me £40 - top service.
