October - Ypres, Somme & Normandy

p.s ... Sorted my spark plugs now mate, what a bitch of a job!! had to take the airbox off and had torrets for an hour! whoever designed that needs a good kicking

Forget all of the above

Got to fitting the second new plug and managed to cross thread the plug! then got it stuck and now in Rainbow for the head removed :blast

Gutted ... I'd have stripped the head myself but running out of time now before our trip! Its either going to be re-tapped or at worse a new head ... Most expensive screw of my life!!!!!!

Hi Ronnie mate,

Trip was fantastic.. Stoppover in Ypres was very memorable but the digs we stayed in were garbish! No hot water and too far from the town center.. We made up for it with the sites though. Menin gate was very touching and we were all gobsmacked at every place we visited. Had a real good night in the town center meeting some other Brit bikers and having drinking competitions with the locals! we won  But at a cost! suffered slightly on the ride to the Somme!!

Down near Albert we stopped with Martin and Kate Pegglar, we cannot recommend this place enough! beautiful farm with lovely food and a geat host and hostess :beerjug: (Even though we were all slightly sore from Ypes!) They gave us an Itinery which was awesome and once again we were all shocked with the scale of loss in the Great war. Newfoundland, Thiepval and Delville wood were all very moving.
Had a few sociable beers with the Peglars before our ride to Normandy the next afternoon.

Normandy beach hotel gets a 5 Star rating from us all! Adrian and Karen gave us a warm welcome, including a free fridge full of beer and as many logs as we could possibly throw on the open fire! A great sociable family and a lovely place to stay in Arromanches.
Normandy itself however was slightly dissapointing, we did all the usual touristy bits and we though it was a bit glamourised! You could be mistaken into thinking the Brits never took part in the D day landings! All a bit Hollywood!! Even so we had a good time and would probably do a bit more research the next time and go off the beaten track a little more.
Some of the Batteries are well preserved and put it all into perspective!

To sum it all up we had an excellent week and will def be doing it again, we'll probably concentrate on Ypres and the Somme area a little more next time though as it seemed more interesting to us...

Anyone thinking of doing Normandy, consider the Normandy beach hotel!! 10/10

Unfortunately I saw this thread too late to warn about 'Cherry Blossom B&B' I have never stayed in such atrocious B&B. Accomodation was awful and breakfast was truly dreadful, not sure how anyone makes grey scrambled egg! Also the whole place stank of cigarette smoke. STEER WELL CLEAR
