just been to Spain to clean out my father in laws computer, re-format the disk and do a fresh install of XP plus AVG and zonealarm

Using father in laws pop email account, I can send e mails to pop addresses but not to webmail addresses ie hotmail. the emails seem to go OK but never actually arrive. In fact one mail sent to a pop account with a copy to a hotmail account arrived at the pop but not the hotmail.

all settings are default and I'm sure the PC is clean. cant see it being a PC problem really anyaway. the isp is telephonica on dial up and the e mail servie is terra.es

any ideas?

I'm as thick as a plank with computers, but is it possible that your e-mails are being diverted straight to the recipients Junk folder, ie they may be received but they don't see them? :nenau

I recently sent 3 e-mails to a fellow GSer, but he kept saying that he hadn't had them. In the end I sent it to another e-mail address (which was received no problem) but he later contacted me to say that he'd found the original 3 e-mails unopened in his junk folder.

I just wonder whether the e-mails would get through if you were added as a contact. Certainly worth a try. :thumb2

Thanks Taff - but no. I sent test e mails from my father in laws account to my own hotmail account and checked all folders - zilch

I think the problem is with hotmail filters.

I had problems sending emails from a tesco.net email address to my aunt's hotmail account. She only received about 1 in 3 emails from me. I got her to set up googlemail account. No lost emails since.

My sister, also a hotmail user, never has a problem receiving my emails. I suspect that somewhere along the line my aunt was getting spam from a tesco.net email address and her personal filters labelled the whole domain as suspect.

If FiL wishes to stick with hotmail then my only suggestion is to ensure that each email address he wishes to receive email from is placed in his contacts/white list. This might persuade hotmail's filters to allow them through. Personally I'd get him to migrate to google which is a far superior service.

Alternatively, your FIL could get his own Hotmail address and set it up as a new account within OE to send specific emails to the other Hotmail a/c.
