Off Road Kit

Hi,

I have recently bought a KLX250 for a bit of greenlaning.

I am going to use my old Belstaff textile riding kit and have bought a new Off Road Lid and Goggles but I am looking for some protection

I have searched the forum re Body Armour and the recommendation seem to be for the more expensive range, I know that generally you get what you pay for, but I was wondering what people thought of this Body Armour on EBay.

The price looks good for occasional off road use and it is CE marked.

I don't know what that particular type is like but I can definitely recommend that you get as much protection as you can.
MX boots, knee pads, elbow protection.
It may be worth taking the chance on these but I know go to a local dealer, whose reasonably priced, where I can try things on.

Best if you go get fitted at a shop, the last thing you want is to receive injuries from badly fitted body armour. Get the best that you can afford

I will also be getting some chest protection soon. Twice I have been riding in the Peaks and twice I've had a handle bar in the ribs. I tested my new bushguards yesterday and my chest is as sore as anything today.
How do you like the klx? I've had so much fun on mine that the GS has barely been used. The only real things that have gone wrong are wheel bearings but this is due to the off road use and water ingress. I'm about to do the swinging arm bearings. It may be worth your while seeing if the swining arm pin is free moving and making sure that you keep it well greased. Mine is solid at the moment but will come out in the end.
Forgot to say. Make sure any kit you buy is breathable as you will sweat gallons.

we sell this stuff and to be frank its crapcheap made in tiwainesseseshit.
go for wulf or forcefeild is the best about 140 pounds but worth it i have been offroad for 8 yrs round rivi and lakes brokern 17 bones and 6 bikes
its fun but somtimes

Thanks for the assistance chaps.

Following the comments above I am considering getting some "proper" off road boats. Currently using Dainese Virunga D-Drys which seem OK but are not overly stiff.

So does anyone know anywhere in the South East that has a good selection of different manufacturers where I can go and try some boots on before buying them cheaper off t'internet

A bit of a bump!

I have been out with my Dainese boots on but they do not have a gearchange pad and I don't want to knacker them off road. So I have been looking for offroad boots.

Tried on a load of different makes in J&S this morning, none of which fitted "nicely". Just popped down to Hein Gericke and tried on the Alpinestar Tech 3 and the TRG Cross boots.

The Alpinestars are £10 more expensive but are they a better boot than the HG ones? Which would you buy?

done 1500 miles in rain and i walk dog in them best boots i have
fully waterpuff its worth get a boot thats works and has warranty
tech 3 r not water puff neither r hg boots
ask any off roader or the long way down boys
there use bags to keep them dry

I personally would go for the alpinestars. The last pair I bought were tech 8's and I can honestly say that they are well worth the extra money. I will never buy cheap MX boots again. Also bear in mind that no off-road boot is waterproof. I've found the best solution is a pair of sealskinz socks. They're made of neoprene so when you do (and you will!) get a boot full of water and they get wet, they act like a wetsuit and keep you toasty
I've tried the goretex socks ans they're OK as long as water doesn't get inside them. However, when you end up knee deep in a stream/bog/feck off puddle and the water does get inside them they're no better than a regular wool sock.
Re armour as said above, get the best you can afford. I bought 2nd hand dainese gear for the same money as the cheap n nasty new stuff.
If you buy good quality kit it will last you years and should you decide you want rid of it, be saleable 2nd hand. Cheapo stuff won't.

Well I bought the Tech3's on Friday.

I was happy with my Dainese Virunga boots off road but the metal gearlever was knackering the leather as there was no protection pad on the top of the boot but they are waterproof.

Have worn the Tech3's today to break them in a bit and needed to adjust the position of the gear level. Am off out tomorrow to break them in off road. I will be getting some sealskinz socks at some stage.

Protection is no good unless it's comfy- you'll wear it once then not bother again, or won't strap it up properly or whatever.

For that reason, I certainly wouldn't buy any stuff off Ebay unless I'd tried the same item on in a shop and knew it was right in fit and comfortable enough to wear for 8 hours a day.
