I'm looking for information or suggestions from the collective for extra protection for my 1250 adventure in advance of this years ACT in Italy. Anyone an experience of breaking or dropping their GS off-road and what recommendations could you offer. Thanks in advance

Dropped mine green laning and just scratched the lower crash bar and broke a handguard and a scratch on pannier. I would say you don't need to add anything although I was going very slow.

Original barkbusters or some of the variants? I see ones that look like cast aluminium and some steel ones that are fitted outside the BMW guards.

No original barkbuster only, I look at others and they fit only on end bar and then on plastic piece of handguard, this is no good, barkbuster is so solid and build is so good, and has solid to handlebar I buy from Wunderlich.

I bought some Barkbusters and personally didn't like them so sent them back.I use The Wunderlich ones but would definitely break if bike was dropped again.

Dropped mine many times (always with SWMBO on the back and stationary/low speed). Get better lower crash bars than the OEM ones (or add a 4th mounting point brace) and a set of valve covers. Also add a cheap Chinese crash bung to the bevel drive pivot. The GSA tends to fall on the lower crash bars and the hand guards - I've never broken the standard handguards, just scratched them.
