Off-Road stuff

If that Llanwrthwl Moor? If it is I once, quite by accident, went over there from North to South on the GS, and on my own

GPS said it was about 4 miles, I did it in 6 miles, did a lot of going around the bogs. There was a sign on the gate at the Llanwrthwl end offering 4x4's tractor pulls at £60 a time.

My bum bag has a small spanner socket set, a small bag of nuts & bolts, a spare leaver, a spare sparking plug and spanner, a small pair of molegrips, a knife, some tie-wraps, a role of insulation tape and some wire.

When I used tubes a spare front would be fixed to the bike along with tyre leavers and my bum bag would have a compressed air cartridge adaptor and a few cartriges, nowadays I use mouses.

Never go serious off-roading on your own. I escaped with just scratches and bruises, but I could easily have broke an arm or a leg, and you soon realise how vulnerable you are when you're sat on your arse on a remote rocky path .... with not a house in sight. :tears

That's generally the advise I've been given and what I would give, but I do regularly go offroading in remote areas alone:rolleyes: .
I know the risks but the sense of freedom with the bike is for me, worth it.

This is another pic of the moor that Greg showed, I hit a big rock and would have struggled to get out alone, but I would have in the end.
Riding through the most difficult part is all part of the fun, surely;)

I'm quite speedy at changing a tubes on a moutain bike but on a motor bike I guess it's a different exsperiance alltogether - what are the preventative options? some kind of slime in the tubes? A can of that spray in mouse?

It's not a spray in mousse mate.....its a Michelin Bib Mousse(google).it's basically a rubber ring which you      F and blind at whilst fitting it into each tyre then onto the rim:spitfire :spitfire :spitfire
Practice makes perfect!!:thumb2 :beerjug: :beerjug:
You can puncture them but they dont hold air so you aint got a puncture.....also its like running at 18psi depending upon which size mousse you get with which sized tyre you run.

Dont bother with pirelli ones or any other make.....michelin lead the way.:thumb2

Costs.....about 150quid would be a good price for a pair delivered.
Not cheap but think, two heavy duty tubes.....20-35quid + spare tube....7quid? + slime....10-20quid? + lightweight tyre levers....10quid? + pump....5-15quid + the shame of squealing like a pig when your freezing cold fingers are trapped between the tyre and rim whilst inserting the valve!!

Also the way i see it is,i aint holding no one up with a puncture.:)

I think the decision also comes down to how often you get out also.Last year i did 4,500 miles having trailered the bike to the areas i was riding so in my case they're worth it.

Given the shite we were riding through on Saturday, I'll probably add a pulling strop.

:o
