Sorry, don't really know where to list this!

I really want/need off road training, however the BMW course is fully booked for the rest of the year.

I have put my name for any cancellations, but dont really hold out much hope!

Can anybody recommend another off road course that I could do in the meantime??? :nenau

Why not come and join us on the off road ride at LLangollen in May (see associated threads). You'll be in the company of other GSs - so at least you'll know the bike's capable. Plenty there to offer advice.

Go and do the course in Hechlingen in Germany instead :thumb they cater for English speakers and you can make a nice trip out of it too.

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't think any other course is going to be even close to as good as the BMW one for riding a GS off-road.

I'm sure the others may be as good or better for riding 99% of bikes off-road, but the GS is unusual to say the least. :thumb

I did the BMW course last October, and more recently the KTM Adventure tours offering in Devon.

From this minimal experience I'd agree with IanC.

Polarbear has done the BMW course several times, and the the second level once, he did the KTm course with us and we discussed which one we'd recommend. We were both of the opinion that they were both excellent and we'd probably be back for more of the KTM stuff. Both had lots of basics in common, but with slightly differing focus.

I'd guess that the following are common to most off road syllabus:
Lifting a dropped bike
Riding position
Slow speed control
Braking techniques
Cornering techniques - using weight shift
Climbing and descending
