What is the general concencsus on tyres suitable for road and mixed off road use. The Tourances are great on tarmac, but very slippy on any off road and dare i say lethal in Fords#
Thanks

Until I put TKCs on my bike I had rarely ventured off road. Now I have them (and I'm on my 2nd rear) I go off road all the time. I am much more confident and have used them on all types of surface including mud, sand, wet grass, loose packed gravel all without problem.

how do they perform on road........... do you 'press' on on tarmac ??? I need a good compromise of 'spirited' on road and useful off. is this achievable???

TKC 80's are excellent in the dry, but pretty poor in the wet. My only real gripe apart from wet-riding is that they cause a tingling-type vibration, mainly in the bars, at 40mph.

Also, unsurprisingly, they don't last brilliantly (less rubber in contact with the road), but they are cheaper than road tyres, so may not be much more costly - just need changing more frequently.

I've ridden behind BHT, Vern, Madmountainman and several other 'spirited riders' on their TKC's while I've been on tourences and noticed no difference in attack potential.......it may well be that I ride like a pansy but even so, a TKC shod bike won't lose out much to any others unless you're a nutter or if your name is Ming..

This only changes in the wet over metal gratings, wide banding or very hard acceleration on tight corners, in which case they drift a little, but still very predictably.

For overall enjoyment and fun potential, the best tyres I've ever had.

Go for TKC's....they perform as well as they look.
