I really fancy the idea of picking up a cheap off roader (DRZ 400S seems the most popular choice) and using it on / off road. Make a nice antedote to the GS.

Living in Kent though i'm worried there will not be enough places to enjoy the off-road experience.

Does anyone know of any good places to explore around Kent / Sussex and Surrey??

surrey's got heaps of places to get stuck and fall off on, get a large scale OS map and lots of lanes are shown:thumb2 apparently it's best go in a group incase you proper stuff in:thumb2 better to have someone with who after lots of laughing and picture taking will call you an ambulance.

As Lo IQ says, loadsa stuff in Surrey, I now know several routes close to Guildford and running down in to Hampshire which I've done on the GS - let me know if you're in the area & we could hook up;-)

There is nowhere in Sussex (East or West) that you can legally ride, off-road, apart from on private land. Everywhere is now either footpath, bridleway or restricted byway. :spitfire

How do you know that?

Plenty of legal lanes in Kent & Surrey & Hants. Sussex is a disaster area post NERC bill because almost all their lanes were old-status RUPPS so now Restricted Byways rather than Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs).
You should go along to the South London & Surrey TRF group Weds evening gathering and join if you decide you like green laning.

Thanks Piedevant that looks like a very useful and interesting website. I'll check out a few of the sites. This is all looking very interesting. The next task is to win over Mrs Kevmeister who currently cannot see any logic in owning two bikes (or one for that matter). Life would be boring without challenges!!

Hiya Lo IQ, hope the bruises have gone - thought you might like to know I moved the offending tree trunk while walking the dog the other day:beerjug:

Thanks very much... to be honest I have no idea where that place was. Was it beggars lane or London Lane? as I got asked by my mate who's a ranger for the council.

Not till he stopped for air due to laughing so much at my expense:blast for falling off...
