Is the KTM 990 Adv really better than the F800GS "off road"?

And if so, why?

And if so, why?

I only ridden the 990 a couple miles off-road and a couple days on an F8... but I can imagine some people would say a big difference is the WP suspension... Also, having an 18" rear does make finding good tyres a lot easier.

The KTM salesman said so........
I've rode both and i found the 800 would pull-off from just above tick-over, where the 990 was like a switch, all or nothing.
Sure the 990 has far better suspension and i reckon it would take a couple of tumbles without picking up too much damage, as for the 800GS, I have heard of horror stories of the beak/screen taking a hit and taking the clocks out with it...... and I'd hate to think how much that lot would cost to repair.

The future may be different for the BMW group, this Nuda900RR is the first of a new breed of bike, and I reckon they have the 990 in the sights at BMW Motorrad. A 21/18 wheel combo, 25 litre fuel cell and some adjustable legs/shock will be needed to take on the 990, and even a single seat option to reduce weight, let's see what happens hey!......:popcorn

Have seen an 8 take a pretty hard knock:

And as for a new breed... something like this :drool

Looks a little like the Touratech version:

Unless you're an off road god and or if you're gonna do some serious off road trails I think you'll be better off with something smaller. The F650/800 is the compromise people make when they envisage the long miles of adventure touring. At least that's my reasoning for choosing the F8. With some modifications I think it's probably as capable, if not more, than any of it's other competitors.

All bikes will do what you ask it, but some will do it better, whether by design or determination. Ive seen mopeds in the sahara, harley's in the jungle and sports bikes in the arctic... Ride what you have or whatever bike you love. I recall Austin Vince saying that you never hear riders say that they wish their bike was heavier or more cumbersome.

So Touratech have entered a Nuda in the Erzberg :drool

I hope they, if released, enclose the rear mudguard a little on the Nuda, as at present it looks like it gives about as much protection from the wet/mud as the X-Challenge, which is poor! Isn't that right Johnny?:blast

Right. But you can have heavier and less cumbersome. Which I assume the 990 is over the 800 :nenau

That Nuda looks interesting :green gri

What is that fuel tank off or who makes it if it's an aftermarket unit?
The headlight is a Daja Designs unit I think.
The bike looks great.:drool

Ahhhhhaaaagh, found it, and it's a Tourateck tank.......

I feel a new project coming on....... anyone got a damaged 800GS they want to sell?

Found a couple more pics of the Nuda:

Instead of a spare FD, riders will need a spare radiator ;)

Not the best footage and a whole lot of German narrative but a few good glimpses of the bike in motion. It certainly looks tall!

Too true, piss poor:blast

The lostrider rebuild is awesome.

But if one reads how much time and money he have put into it then one very fast discover that it would be cheaper to get an 2nd hand G650 xChallenge and add the parts Walther have on his and still end up with something which is more driveable off road. And probably cheaper...
