Hi

I am a total novice to off road motorcycling and was wondering if there are any regular meets in the SW where I can get my 1150GSA nice and dirty! I am planning to go to Mongolia next year and need the off road experience. Sadly I work shifts and have 1 in 3 weekends off with the mon-wed off in between that. If anyone is willing for a novice to tag along I would really appreciate it! I am hoping to do the BMW level 1 course in March but want some experience under my belt before then. So if anyone knows of any routes they could recommend or wouldn't mind a beginner tagging along that would be great! :thumb2

Cheers

I'm not aware of much in your part of Dorset but there did used to be shedloads of trails in Hampshire. You could ride from Ringwood/Verwood to Salisbury off road and beyond. One of the local guys may have more up to date info on what's going on in Hants/Wilts - it's been around five years since I was down that way.

There was a group/company that worked out of Eblake (?) industrial estate (met up at Crescent Suzuki) that used to do guided trails - stopping for lunch at Cranbourne - great sausage sandwiches!

You've got the Plain - do a search on here 'cos I'm sure there's a current thread on an outing.

Have you joined the local TRF group? They should be able to help.

Alternatively, you could play along the Jurrasic Coast:eek:

You may need to do some looking on maps etc, but there is a trail that goes from the Verwood area to Compton Airfield area.

Also it might be worth speaking to a guy called Frank at Crescent Suzuki in Charminster, he used to do of off roading (not sure if it was just motor cross?)
Try speaking to CW in Dorchester as well.

If i've helped great, if not sorry!

I also work shifts so midweek is good for me I haven't been off road much this year as I have had too much on but I'm up for it if you are and I would like to get out there before Xmas why not give me a bell on 07966605055 and we can talk about it

I'm in Bournemouth by the way

Another good route for a bit of first time is the track that runs from Salisbury along the ridge to Shaftsbury, its about 13 miles and good fun.

and easily do able on a GS.
I'm up for a midweek run on the Plain.

broke my leg on that bit of easily do able trail

Mind you I was being a knob :o

Sorry to hear that Bob.
I'm not by any remote stretch of the imagination any kind of off road god, but I'd recomend it as a good starter track for a GS.

No you are totally right it is a good track to start on ,it has got very cut up over the last few years with all the 4X4 traffic up there and parts of it are very muddy in the wet but it its dry you could ride a road bike up there

But if you are sodding about you can hurt your self any where :D

Hi folks thanks for the replies and I will give you a bell Bob. I have got my TKC's so I will get them fitted over next couple of days and then the fun begins!!!!:bounce1

I'm local in Poole looking for others to join for off road outings please

Not bad ya old bugger, how's life down there?
Do you need a visa to get up this way for a ride on the Plain?
Let me know when any of you are out and about and if I'm free I'll join you for formation falling over lessons.

Nice bike Captain ? :augie would love one as a second ride, did have a look at one at Ocean Plymouth a couple of weeks ago. Very impressed with it and would look great next to my GSA. Great for me but no good if you are 5' 4" and want to have a go :blast:D. perhaps thats the good reason I needed for me to get one :augie May try and get along to see you before Christmas, but will PM you. Cheers mate :thumb2

Hi C,

It's a virtual ride at the moment (artist impression) but it will be 'Captinised' like that within a week. I have also made up my TT list... ££££ .... :blast
Vines Guildford did a good fair deal for an '08 with me.
I don't think it's any good if you are even 5'8" let alone 5'4" ... it's a tall bike.
Ocean similar deal but I was loyal to Vines as they have been good to me in the past. They are great bikes :thumb. I wish I had the space for two bikes
Would be great for you as you are not shy of a few inches...it'll look like a 125with you on it ...
Be good to see you two 'guys' ...
