Somebody sent me a PM, asking how to use the app in offline mode.

What they really meant was: How do I download the maps, mate?

It’s easy:

Open the app

Top left corner, three horizontal bars…. Click on them

Top right corner, cut out of man in circle….. Click on it

Scroll down to Offline maps….. Click on it

Choose the area you want to download….. Click on it

PS If you chose to download the whole of Europe, it’s 16 gb, so it will take a while. Of course if you do not plan to visit Ukraine any time soon or the outer extremities of Finland and Svalbard, you can save yourself a lot of time.

I don’t think the offline map download function is allowing downloads to properly st the moment.

If that was me I wasn’t asking how to download offline maps.
The issue was if anybody sent me a route it would be saved offline with no obvious way to bring it online.
Not an issue with the new app

Sent from my Nokia 3310 using Thetwatcantalk

It wasn’t you. Your problem was different and was resolved by your downloading of the new app.

This is a new post, explaining how to download offline maps. Then it goes on to say that I do not think the new app’s ability to download offline maps (needed if people want to use the new app app in its offline mode) is working properly. Offline mode is important but only if bods fear that they might be stung for data charges and / or are worried about a possibly poor internet connection.

The problem with downloading multiple offline maps (for android and IOS devices) has been flagged up on the MyRoute forum. I certainly cannot get the new app to download multiple maps properly on my iPhone or Samsung phones.

This is not so much a problem for me, as I rarely use an offline mode. i simply experimented, hopefully to get some knowledge as to how it works and then maybe use the knowledge to help others. The only knowledge I have gained so far, is that the offline download function, is not working properly. I have no idea why.

I managed to download Netherlands and Belgium for a forthcoming trip this morning, but only after restarting iPhone as download had stalled and then selecting the 'update option' at the top of the page to 2.8? Then seems to have updated succesfully

A statement, lifted from the MRA news forum:

Statement regarding updating offline maps
Some users experience issues with downloading the (mandatory) update. If you still have this issue, please try reinstalling the app completely. In this update, we've improved some internal logging that helps us in solving the issue. If you therefore are still stuck in the update, please let us know!

A statement, lifted from the MRA news forum:

This worked.

As an experiment only:

A. I deleted the app from my iPhone

B. I set the phone’s Auto-Lock to Never

C. I selected the whole of Europe (16 gb)

D. I went to bed

Overnight, everything was installed.

Will I ever need the whole of Europe? No.

@Wapping What version of MyRoute-app are you running?

I'm not sure I have the latest version, and may still be on the beta version. My Android phone is currently running version 4.0.0 - 185.
Also, I tried deleting the App and reloading it, when I do so Google Play still tells me I'm a Beta tester for the App so this make me think I'm downloading the last Beta s
version.

Mine says version 4.0.0 (no 185 showing ) Last updated 14th June 2023 if this helps. I was also a Beta tester.

There’s 4.0.1 in TestFlight with an update to offline maps. May be worth checking that

I haven’t tried downloading the maps to an Android phone yet. Everything I have done so far is on my iPhone.

Following the link from MyRoute’s notification that the new Next app has left its Beta testing stage, I have downloaded the app from the Google Play Store and installed it on my Samsung phone. I see that it’s called ’Beta’. I guess (though it’s only a guess) that it’s simply misnamed. It certainly looks the same as the non-Beta version on my iPhone and seems to behave the same way.

All working fine on my Samsung ‘Tab Nav’

Offline mode is much better in the more remote parts of the Alps with poor reception (and therefore most of the UK too I guess).

Thank you for the news that the offline maps downloaded OK. I have left my Samsung phone, downloading the full 16 gb of Europe. I’ll see tonight whether it was successful.

All my maps that had downloaded with the previous version were picked up by the ‘Next’ version without issue, despite them being hidden away on an SD card.

But I did run an update that worked perfectly, and only took about 5 mins.

I was pretty sceptical about MRA before but am beginning to enjoy it now., it’s one of the best I’ve used so far.

I am sure you are right. I noticed that the new app had picked up the UK maps I had downloaded a while ago, without me doing anything.

I think the MyRoute app, coupled to its cloud based route creation is now pretty good. Is it perfect? No, not yet. I had a problem with it not skipping waypoints automatically on a motorway. However, the very good user’s forum came up with a reason and volunteered to consider changing the ‘skip’ algorithm to something more aggressive, when on motorways.

I am easily confused. What exactly does ‘offline mode’ mean in MRA context? Does it just refer to route creation/recalculation when there is no internet connection (deliberate or otherwise)?

Thanks all for your replies, from what you all say it looks like I may not be on the Beta still.
About the time they officially released the new version I noted that my android phone that MtRoute was stuck on an update, nothing seemed to be happening. At that time I removed MyRoute-app and then reinstalled it. this appeared to cure the download issue and it also allowed me to reinstall the Maps for offline use.

Mixed result with downloading the 16 gb map set for Europe to my Samsung S10.

I just left it downloading while I went to work.

For some unknown reason, the download stalled, with France, Italy and the UK not installed. Everything else was there. I closed the app and restarted the download. A few minutes later, everything was installed.

have 4.05 build 225. I I downloaded Washington and Virgina 2 days ago. Ran a route Yesterday, set the app to offline. It worked, although power consumption was just as bad so it only saves you data. Pity.
