Tomorrow, 23rd May, Stump and I are doing a final timed rehearsal for an upcoming raleigh.
The route is probably 60/40 road/offroad and is very suitable for anyone with a big trailie and that includes Teneres etc, who has not ridden offroad before.

Not suitable for anything small

The ground is bone dry so couldn't be better for novices and suitable for dual purpose tyres.
Our route will be Cheddar,Breakfast Shaftesbury,Tollard Royal,Shaftesbury Drove,Plains,Caen Hill,Cherhill,Cheddar. Lots
of fast road miles and lots of easy big novice capable offroads, I need guinea pigs on big bikes, and that means anyone who hasn't ridden offroad before. You;ll learn lots.

The route is also possible for anyone who doesn't want to join us offroad, as long as you bring a map for regrouping points

As an afterthought, for the real event, on Sunday 30th, we probably also need someone with a GPS (or a good OS map), and should be a BMW, who could lead road sections and meet the offroaders at regrouping points

Start will be 08.15 hrs, but I am not posting location till I have an idea of numbers, because I have posted elsewhere and the TRF do not like big numbers

p.m. me or post your details here if interested
:D

Oh my... I've just slapped a Anakee 2 on the arse of my F800GS, no off road experience but boy am I keen :O... will have to see what the management says this afternoon.

I'll PM you later if I'm allowed out ;-)

If I am, beware I've no major off road experience, and am likely to make an arse out of myself... I'll give it a go though :-)

ILMV this route is extremely novice capable, especially since it is bone dry. Our biggest issue tomorrow will be....... the heat.

Our down road route will be Cheddar, Priddy, Shepton Mallett,Gold Hill (Shaftesbury) for a snack at the top of the Hovis Hill, so if you or anyone wants to be scooped up en route, then we'll need to liaise
:D

So far
GrinningGser GSA
Stump GSA
ILMV F800GS
Goughie F650 Dakar

also Probable from
Shaun F650 funduro

Nothing hard on this one, just LOADS of tracks. No mud, no hills, no ruts. Couldn't be better for novices

Heat is our enemy tomorrow :D

Would love to have joined in but a bit short notice for the management approvals process.

Will keep an eye out for similar in the future.

Cheers

My management approval process was approved quickly as I mowed the lawn and she works nights :-P

Result :augie

I'm a bit peeved..............would love to try some first timer virgin off road(ish) with more experienced chappies..............YOUR JUST TOO FAR AWAY :(

Have a great day :thumb2

oh.....and if anyone in north west wants to replicate :augie

Holy mother... it's a sunday and I'm up at 7am, I thought you meant PM Paul ;)

See you all there!

Photographs...

Hovis Hill... makes you want a sandwich

The Playground - Paul's bike parked up against this awesome background

Mike deciding not to tackle the twigs dotted around this track

Some random Bristol BMW employee will be busy on Monday

Shaun riding so fast Mike (who took this picture) couldn't keep up

I suspect this is how the red sea was parted, with a GS @25mph

A cool little shot from Mike

That's me, very much not exploding

Mike on approach... dirty bike in 3, 2, 1...

Mike tackling some random pile of stones

Shaun tackling the random pile of stones

Paul tackling the random pile of stones

And me, tackling the 6 foot high, looks like stones but actually sand, extremely difficult, completely unrelated pile of something... handled like a pro :augie

And some random field after riding down the roller coaster byway.

Thanks Ben, my shots look so grainy, but I think that is actually the muddy brown water

It was actually very difficult to find any water shots today!
Great day guys and B hot too :-)

Nice crisp pics Ben but beware using your Nikon offroad. My Nikon has suffered minor damage but my Canon G9 is wrecked by vibration. Look at the dust on the sensor in this vid, very evident in the sky scenes... and it has already been professionally cleaned once:

BTW this photo is taken on a public byway and is not off the carriageway.. before any of you comment.. it is shopped :augie

Yeah was a fun day, bloody hot... should have texted you the link.

I hope to have another go next time someones offering a tour around, wasn't too difficult on dual purpose tyres.

Well Ricky, Ben and I have already done one of your rides. Perhaps we can repeat this ride for you sometime. In any case we are doing it again for the BMW owners club this coming Sinday from Cheddar

Meanwhile I am still playing with Ben's Nikon shots, so here is another shopped photo of last Sunday's ride:
