Are there any off-road schools who will take students with no riding experience? Mavette hasn't ridden on the road and isn't particularly interested but I think she likes the idea of playing the in dirt, so to speak, so was thinking of getting her some off-road lessons, if I can find a school that will take complete beginners.

Also, she doesn't have any kind of UK licence...

Any suggestions?

Geraint Jones Yamaha school in Wales, they start them on 125cc playbikes and work up from there http://www.yamaha-offroad-experience.co.uk/about.htm

No better teachers than the Jones family on their own farm

Realistic prices too

Here's Geraint, 30 years ago

Thanks for the suggestions chaps - Sheffield is a bit of a trek, but I'll give them both a call and see what they say.

i2i's offroad venue is 80 miles north of Sheffield, near to me - so a real tek from the Cotswolds

I think you'll be fine with Geraint, a fine rider

Took my girlfriend to i2i the weekend after she did her cbt and she had a fabulous time. After a year on a 125 occasionally she's decided she doesn't like riding on the road and sold the 125. We're moving to Devon soon and will be buying her a green lane 125 so she can come and play in the muddy stuff.

Tom at i2i will look after mavette very well.

Timolgra spent 2 days teaching me green lane riding and taking me round north wales and he's an instructor too. You might give him a try too, I had a fantastic time with him.

Thanks but Mavette would need a full license to ride on the trails to be legal unless she was on a 125 after doing a CBT:beerjug:

She's not of these shores so can't get a UK license, therefore can't do her CBT.

So what I need is somewhere with enough space to play off-road and an instructor who's OK with teaching offroad to a student with zero knowledge, and can provide a suitable bike.

Not asking much then ;)

When I attended the i2i off road course, a guy brought his wife who had never ridden a bike. It's a private MX-style track so no licence required. However, the lady didn't get the full training because i2i's fleet of KTMs are tall and we stopped a lot, plus it got progressively more "advanced" and several riders fell off.

Perhaps 1-to-1 tuition would be more suitable for her?

That will be a gap in the market then :D
