Off to Iceland in July and was wondering what offroad tyres other forum members use on their F800 GSA.
Considering BMW decided to supply the 800 Adventure with tubed tyres my choices seem limited!

Alex :nenau

Mitas E-07

I guess the Heidies or Mitas are the two best options.

Then again if you don't mind 140/80 then have a look at the Pirelli Scorpion MT90 A/T ....

Pirelli mt21 rallycross also worth consideration.

Don't worry too much 're tubeless aspect. You can run tubeless tyres with tubes, but not the other way round so you should have plenty of choice.

One of the mods timolgra has done a lot in Iceland. Maybe send him a pm?

My choice:-

TKC80 front
Mitas E09 Dakar rear

Went on the Trans Portugal trail last year K60 front & Mitas ME07 rear both great tyres no issues but particularly like the Mitas on & off road.

Thanks for all the suggestions, lads!:beerjug:

I'll do a bit more research now that I have something to go on!

Though tubes in tubeless tyres were a no-no?:blast

Should qualify my previous post, I have done this on trail oriented bikes with no problems, but not on road only high power bikes where both speed and the associated generated heat is higher.

You'll have to satisfy yourself 're suitability for intended purpose I guess. Plenty to read on various adventure bike forums.

Enjoy your trip.

My favourite offroad combo is a michelin desert race on the front and an anakee wild on the rear. Run the front at about 25psi and the on road grip isn't as bad as you would think even in the wet

So still pretty bad then

Tkc 80! depending on how much tar you will be on getting there !

Exactly !
The OP needs to say whether he's riding to Hirtshalls for the ferry or shipping the bike from UK otherwise it's not really possible to recommend the right tyre for the job :beerjug:

well before the desert i had a pirelli scorpion rally on the front and i'd say i'm only marginally less confident on the desert as i was on the pirelli on wet tarmac. dry tarmac i'd say was pretty equal and offroad desert wins hands down.

So if you are doing the vast majority of the ride on real rough muddy ground with only faint trails to follow then the extreme Scorpion Rally, Anakee Wild or Desert Race is a good suggestion. However, while most of the roads in Iceland are gravel they are just a tad OTT. Better would be TKC70 or Heidenau K60. Both of which will do gravel roads and give decent grip on the tarmac. It's what I'm going to be using for the TransAmerica trip next year with its mix of sealed roads and gravel.

Thanks for the heads up Timolgra.

Shipping the bike from Hull early July.
60/40 onroad/offroad.
My big question :Can I run offroad tubless tyres with tubes for the trip?
We will be covering approx 1800 miles. tar, gravel, ash, sand, water and snow with a bit of camping thrown in. Should be a blast!

Did the Alaskan Trip with Srg Bilko in 2012, R1150GS Adventure and Heidenau K60's 9000 miles and no problems. Maybe a bit noisey but very good on the Haul Road and TOTW Highway.
My problem is I now have a F800 GS Adventure and BMW in their wisdom supplied them with tubed rims!!

I'm there for the whole of July so may see you somewhere :beerjug:

Yes you could run offroad tyres with tubes, you'll find the ash wears tyres very quickly .... I ruined a rear Michelin Desert in just over a week last year, but it's just a guess, you'll get much more mileage from your tyres than I do.

Any of the above suggestions would be fine for your bike, this is not a recommendation for you but I'll probably be using Dunlop D908 rear and Mitas C17 front.

If you check out Heidenau website they confirm its fine to run their tubeless K60 with tubes in I run them on my F800GS with no issues
