Hi Guys,

Got my rims (thanks Lo IQ) now just need some rubber.

17 " rear and 21" front what the best road legal offroad tyres?

Cheers

What sort of riding are you doing?

Any good off road tyres are going to be pretty lethal on tarmac.

And then again, any suitable tyres on the road wont be brilliant on the dirt.

What you really need are two sets of wheels :D

I make do with TKC80s. Adequate for me on both road and dirt (realistic 80/20 split). But the power of the HP can't be used on either surface properly with them (stopping quickly aint fun )

Whatever you choose wont last long anyway, so you can try a few out :thumb

I personally go with Pirelli MT21 on the front and Michelin Desert on the rear - a reasonable balance of grip on both road and off-road and ok wear.

Hi Guys,

Dont think I have made myself that clear...:blast

got a second set of wheels and now need to put some tyres on them. Want the tyres just for offroad use but need to be road legal so that i can ride the bike to offroad sites....

hope this helps

cheers

Are you talking about riding 10 miles or 50 miles to your off-roading? If the latter, I would go with my recommendation. If your riding is closer to home, I would need to have a think...

Why not Deserts fornt and rear, or MT21s for that matter. Why the mix?

I find the Desert on the rear is aggressive enough and able to take the abuse for the rear and the MT21 gives me that little bit more confidence on the road getting to and from the trails while still being 'good enough' on the trails.

Proper knobbly tyres on the front of the HP can be a tad scary on the road, especially in the wet, downhill

In answer to the first - 17" is a lot easier to find roadish tyres and the wheels do suppoty tubeless tyres. But you are able to relace an 18" rim to OEM hub which is what I have for proper off-road tyres. I think I will put Karoo T's or TKC on the 17" for touring with dirt.

I've been running the dunlop D908 RR on the SE only made in 18" size...well pleased cracking balls out offroad tyre...and a TKC on the front ...when trail riding ,For the more serious stuff like the Rydale i used a Dunlop FIM geomax also very good...

Shame you didn't make it to the Peaks last weekend would have liked to have seen the HP2 in action :thumb2
