For months we have been preparing for a 3 month trip across to Japan on our old GS's. We leave Thursday morning and everything is ready, including packing the house - we aren't coming back :clap .

This morning while doing the final, final, final check a fuse goes on my wife's R80, so I replace it only to blow another. The fault is clearly something to do with an indicator and brake circut.

Question where could I go to get this fixed, is it a big job and do I need to go to a BMW experienced mechanic? Also I live in central London.

Any advice or ideas?

Faults like this can be talked about remotely for days, yet fixed in minutes if you`re there.

To try and get an idea or even fix it yourself....firstly,remove the tail lamp bulb, then unplug the indicators, both the brakelight switches and handlebar switchgear.

Replace the fuse.

If it blows, then the fault is possibly within the loom and will need some proper fault finding.

If it doesn`t blow, then the fault is in one of the things that you`ve disconnected.

Try conecting them one at a time to see if the fuse blows and this should pinpoint the fault.

Check also that you haven`t trapped a wire and shorted it to earth following the fitment of a rack or pannier frame....

HTH.

Pity you`re not nearer,as I could have helped in person.
