Oh I do like to be beside the seaside....

You'd of needed some soon anyway :D

I did hear of a lot of new HP2 owners crashing theirs in the first few weeks of ownership, so I took things easy. Didn't stop me running up the back of lorry though :blast Flighty buggers aren't they :D

Hope you're OK (after the adrenalin wears off )

Only a week before Christmas I nealry wiped out when a Honda wave 110came across the road as I was doing around 100MPH on the HP2, I had no time to react or go any where, I just brake, closed my eye's, yelled ****, but some how I missed the Old Thai fecker..... He'd have been dead for sure......:mcgun

I am thinking of making the transition from a RT to a HP and your story is eye opener .I loved the HP on the test ride , maybe I was going a bit faster or it felt like that ,but I had fun ,back to biking , no ESA,ABS,CD player heated this or heated that .Then I met LO-IQ ( at Vines ) covered in shit from head to toe , he has been out on his HP off roading and he had some fun . He did tell me that the HP was a beast and could bite back . I am in a dilemma:(, I have to make a decision by Friday....I like the RT too it is a good bike but in a different way...Did any one made such a transition?
Hope you mend soon!

I went from a fully loaded ADV to the HP.

To be fair, I had to learn to ride properly again. Blistering acceleration (at least for a Boxer), back end 'skittin' out, wheel spins, front end diving during hard braking, front end skyward, falling into corners (amazing handling) etc etc!

Having come from the relatively 'safe' feeling I got from the GS, to the out-right hooligan attitude from the HP was a shock to say the least!

You cannot for one minute ride an HP like a GS, RT etc. The transition isn't easy, but the 'wild ride' and unpredictability the HP can deliver at times is well worth it...:bounce1

You just need to ask yourself what your looking for in a bike? I needed a bike I could commute on, scratch, and off road. At the moment I don't need a touring bike, I did that on the GS's I've had.

Get one, you'll appreciate it's attitude once you've shown it some respect!

Hi Jim, real glad your okay and not to badly hurt. The HP2 is a really fast tool and trhe handling is not a patch on a GS, (as you have found out). I have over shot the bends on more occasions that I would like to admit and have had a few close shaves. They are far better off road than on but still great fun on the road.

I'd give it a wee while before you make your decision as you seemed to be having such fun on it!!

AndyT:cool:

Sense of Humour

Still got your sense of Humour then, good man, as I said keep us informed Jim, especially as your with e-Bike, they are competitive on the quote, but how are they on the claim?
Unfortunately Jim, you will now find out, I just spent over half an hour on their telephone help line, and the same again on their website, and that was just to renew a policy!!! I'm scared now, good luck with your claim and recovery Jim, keep us informed, all the best Dusan, 1150 GS, heavy old lump like me, Yamaha TT 600 E Belgarda import, slow like me, Royal Enfield Sixty five, frugal like me, and KTM 525 EXC, light fast n manic, just unlike me!!! :D:beerjug::D

cheers for the positive comments guys (DirtyDog yer only jealous 'cause you ride yours like a kiddi lovin pansie boy!).

Bike now in with my local bmw boys to be fixed, ebike have been top notch so far.

Hand and most of bloody arm now confined to plaster, didn't get away with the 'just bandages' approach as i kept managing to knock it on things. 4/6 weeks of non-riding hell now await! glad it aint decent riding weather! :thumb

thanks! I'll try too! All I'll say is have a long hard think as to what you'd want the HP2 for. In my eyes (now!) its a great bike if you do alot of off-roading over and above the green laning most of us do, and intend to do some halfren style competition racing. As DD says if its yer road bike you gotta learn to ride it again first!

In hindsight I think the 12GSA was more than adequate for my needs as a mild green laning type, as touring on it was also an option, whic I enjoy doing, then if I do get the enduro bug go for a jap single to really compete.

So if you intend to do alot of touring and commuting its the RT if you want to take up enduro riding and have a bonkers road bike its the HP2. I'll be going back to a GSA with all mod cons!! Saw the new silver one in dealers today... v.nice and they finally sorted the fog light switch!

well as they havent been arsed to phone me and provide me with a quote after 2 days of waiting, watching me struggle with it getting it into their yard as no place to park, then not offering to help me load it back on the van, it'll be going elsewhere (pidcocks :thumb superb and they gave me a cuppa as well as a lift off with the bike) matey! don't know how they stay in business with that 'helpful' attitude, I counted 11 staff and no customers, other than me offering probs £2000K plus of work... :spitfire I won't go there again, hope he's got decent gap insurance on that new M3 as it seems all the rats are jumping that ship...

Holy smoke mate glad you got out of that one and still able to tell the story

I went from the Africa Twin to the HP2 and besides the speed and power transition you have to adjust your riding completely again. I think most HP2 riders won't complain about the lack of brakes it is just the front work so well that the rear wheel keep on leaving the tar. I managed to drop the HP2 on the A13 about two months ago after an X5 pulled out in front of me. Tapped the rear brake to get the bike to sit and grabbed a handfull of the front but it still went sliding down the road. Luckilly only minimal damage and bruised knee but certainly a wake up call to say the least :o

I have parked the HP2 up for the winter first time in 7 years not commuting by bike and to be honest so far not unhappy about my decision. I am really looking forward to end of March again when I will roll the beast out for the summer commute :D

Take it easy!

The Damage

Quote through from local BM garage to fix damage £4500 not including the chance the frame and cylinder head might need replacing. At £5500 its a total loss so if the frame/engine needs sorting its a write off...

Awating ebikes loss adjusters inspection then see what happens from there. Mountain of forms came today god knows how I fill them in with a broken hand! :o

Speedy recovery Jim.

Has Mav started asking if he can have some of the bits of your bike for spares yet?:D

he already has every spare going mate! So much so his mom had to put up a new shed as the double garage is already full! :augie

Seems I'm not the only one to consider the HPs front end its major weak point. Shouldn't be suprised I suppose - sports bike potential, trail bike geometry and 21" wheel don't mix.

I have no confidence in the front end at all (as anyone who's followed me down a wet winding hill will tell you). The front wheel locks up/tucks in far too easily (even when the fork bushes aren't worn:augie). Only in perfectly dry conditions do I ride it anywhere near as fast or forceful as I did my 1150.

But so what. It's an off road bike, and ridden at legal speeds on the road it's fine, handles well enough and accelerates like sh1t off a shovel. Just don't expect it to stop quickly. Wet roads mean slow into corners (and maybe a bit of rear wheel drifting on the way out :green gri)

I continue to be more than happy with the HP and have learnt to live with the poor front end. Too many other pluses :thumb2:thumb2

I put wilbers progressive springs in the front and new schock on the back so much better. :thumb2 (Too tall but much better)

allso seeen a frame on www. ebay.de last week wasent that deer evever

Hey Jim

Sorry about your off (although not so sorry that I will be offering the relief that DD is suggesting  )

I think some of the comments here about the different feel in the front end of the bike might be worth considering. Sure, a GSA might've stopped faster... but it has a lot more mass to stop, and/or move out of the way. Also, the HP2 has a lot of other great things going for it. As you're not going to be doing any riding in the next few weeks, maybe give it a little time and the Sauce another try. The price of a used HP2 isn't going to go down before the spring, it may even go up.

Just a thought dude :thumb2

Rebuild, What rebuild!

After such a lucky escape I think you need cheering up a bit. if the insurance company play the game and let you have the salvage, one of two options are available.
Option 1 Break it into as many parts as you can & sell on ebay
Option 2 Go onto German Ebay site, and rebuild the bike for next to nothing with almost new parts that they sell over there. You may have to wait a week or two but its all up there.
easy enuff?
