Sat chassing another bike indicating 123mph on sat nav. (er on autobahn) tank slap starts bum tightens, it feckinn slapped terribly I looked at speedo 110mph whole bike shaking vilontly. tried everything relaxing grip, rear brake steady throttle tried accelerating but not much left, decided that I was going to come off at over 100mph and probably die !

but somehow I didnt !!!!

feeling very tired and aching all over but my word i am alive !

now you have to find the reason this happened (erm... the tank slapping not that you didn't die)

your problem lies in your right wrist
try not to twist it too far round

the honda pan st1300 had a similar problem that's why the police reduced the speeds after some serious accidents
one problem i was told was when the top box was fitted and no pillion rider it caused a swirling effect on the back end
then again the police bikes are modified different to standard spec

the original st1100 screens were modified with tear drop holes as at high speed a vortex caused the rider to move forward

this may seem a bit sch-fi :beerjug:

well I had done that speed previously a day before but was 2 up with luggage, no probs.

So I still had the luggage (3 boxes) tyre pressures for 2 with luggage, but I had backed the preload off a bit,

I dont often go fast often anymore this was a good reminder of why !

and it might even be a my name is earl moment

probably the three boxes without pilion then

I went up to 210Km (no space for more) the other day and it felt the same like I was going at 140... (which in turn is like I was going 110-120 with my Dakar)

I had an sat nav indicated 128mph on my GS-A in Spain last year and was a solid as a rock but had no luggage.....!!

I`m no scientist but I can only imagine what the airflow was doing to the bike stability with all those panniers hanging out in the wind.:eek: I would have thought the side panniers would be OK but the Pizza carrier on the rack was the offending article.

I would suggest you were lucky to be here to tell the tale and no wonder there is a speed restriction on the panniers:D.

I found the same thing with my R90s
Panniers and Pillion 125:thumb2mph
no panniers no pillion 125:thumb2mph
Panniers no pillion 90 mph:eek: = thought the frame had turned to rubber.
Looked inside the Krausers to see >>
Please do not exceed speeds of 140 kph [approx 87 mph ] with panniers fitted:eek:

REar reload might have an impact.
Less preload, more sag, more fork rake, more stable
More preload, vice-versa.
No probs here but no top box and no pillion, rock steady.

Well I think it could be the combination of tyre pressure, boxes and suspension !

However my old 1100gs never did this with any combination of stuff !

it wobbled so bad that hanging on Ive pulled hand arm leg and neck muscles as there all aching today !

pants were clean though !

I was out and about the other night and a had a slapper
she cost me £50

thats expensive, they're only £40 around here.....depending on what tricks you want them to perform:rolleyes:
must be a different breed of slapper:augie
