Ohlins

Hi looking for a new front ohlins shocker for my 1150GS been quoted £686 inc the vat by a local chap. Like to know if this is a good price are what,any ideas on who to try would be a help pls lads.

I paid £1050 for both a year or so ago for a custom ohlins (i.e ohlins then spring change). Not sure what the prices have done in the mean time but that doesn't seem a stonking price.

Got it from a place in Coalville, name escapes me now. Edit: k-Tech in Coalville.

Bought the back one last year paid about £550 i think from same guy, thought front one might be a bit cheaper but may be they have gone up.

Well the prices seem to have gone up a lot recently

I paid £750 for a pair in 2005, brand new and built to my spec............now it's nearly that for one

Can't see a reason for such a price hike

I’ve had Ohlins fitted to the last three 1150’s I’ve owned. Had standard shocks on my first 1150 and upgraded to Ohlins. Going back to standard shocks was not an option. They make a massive difference to performance over standard shocks – especially if you are pushing the limits of the standard shocks. I found that riding offroad on standard shocks I could feel the shocks bottoming out – especially over little jumps. The Ohlins never bottom out – I use standard not ADV shocks. They are very expensive but worth it if you plan on keeping the bike. However, having said that, if I were looking for a pair of aftermarket shocks now and couldn’t find good 2nd hand Ohlins I would be looking into Nitron shocks:

Did you try calling them? I believe they can make shocks to order. From what I've read and seen, Ohlins quality at Hagon prices and made in the UK. Lots of great press from track day fans

i had wilbers before and be honest, if i ever decide put money into my gs the 1st place will be suspension. good suspensions will work better than any power mod etc.

i had increase of 10-15mph in my corner speed the 1st day went out, never bottomed out and never lost back end no matter how bad road was or how over the limit i may have being going

so if can afford it well worth it

That's a good point - a can of yellow paint is also substantially cheaper than a pair of shocks

I looked into new rear shock last year for my 1100.

At the time FTR had the best deal I could find for Ohlins : £604.82 + VAT (rear)

They also sell Yacugar (ex WP) : £599 inc. VAT (rear)

Fronts obviously a bit cheaper but these prices were last November before VAT increases etc.

FTR's 'up to' £150 cash back deal still seems to be current although what 'up to' actually means when turkey starts getting talked is anyone's guess (I'd imagine subject to your old shock being suitable for refurb and flirting onto ebay).

For me spending close to half the value of my bike on new shocks is just a bit scary...

The Nitron shocks mentioned earlier look interesting but assuming the pictures bear any relation to the actual shocks, they only appear to have remote damping adjustment (not preload which is just about essential on a GS).

what about the nitron so, think can get preload just add 200 on top of price. same as all other manu.

i would be interested in a group buy or group overhaul of shocks?

from what seeing the hyperpro springs n a refurbed shock are goo. but still may end up spending as much on overhaul as would just buy the basci rear
