Should the oil be changed with the filter on a 12,000 service?
I seem to remember it being done on the 6,000 mile one.

Cheers.

Oh and I’ve switched to the sintered rear brake pad as on the GSA, I hope they last longer at double the price!

Yea, another wind up alright - sorry to spoil your fun.

oil and filter get changed every 6,000 miles or on annual service if you've not done the mileage

Thanks, I was just double checking.

So I wasn't charged for the oil on my 12,000 service or they didn't do it!
Maybe the 1,000 a month keeps it fresh:spitfire

If you don't the acid and impurities in the oil, will slowly start to destroy the engine from the inside

Is there any way of telling 6 month oil from new (let the piss taking begin) ? Is a dealer just going to stay it was done anyway, still in another 6 months it will be back in anyway!

Fresh oil will be clear - after 6 months & some miles it won't be

Regards
Andrew

Easiest way would be to check the colour of the oil in the sight glass - mine looks very different when new to 6000 miles old in all bikes.

You can send oil to specialist companies to be analysed to see if it needs replacing (very common with commercial engines that you want minimum down time on). Better to just replace it if in doubt.

Well the bike was very clean when I picked it up, the sight glass should still nice and clear. Normally I can only just about make out the oil level not the colour, I'd also forgotten that the wheels are light silver and not slate grey!
