Oil Changes

Having come from sport orientated bikes and having to change the oil every 4K I was happy with the BM's 6K service interval. All of the previous bikes I’ve had I generally done inter-service oil changes between the main ones normally after a European tour, so on average the bike was getting an oil change about every 2k. So what’s the consensus with the GS? Do most owners wait and have it done every 6K or is it with worth changing it mid service at 3k?

All your deep GS experience would be very helpful

Its` not necessary to change but I always change oil, but not the filter, at 3k. Its` just something I`ve always done because I was taught that clean oil means long engine life!! I always use mineral oil as well because it`s not only cheaper than synthetic but I don`t think synthetic has any benefits with the regular changes. My 1200GS-A has 22,000 miles in 14months with no issues or oil usage so it works in my head!!
