Oil Consumption - great news for all of you

I've had the same 1100GS for 4 years and was alarmed at the amount of oil it used when i first bought it with 17,000 miles on the clock. I think it was Brackens who advised switching to Semi -Synthetic (I tend to use Rock) and all was OK immediately.
But they say you should use a normal oil to run the bike in. it WILL use oil when new but this will change rapidly when you switch to Semi-Synthetic. But can never ignore the LEMON factor. Good luck.

You may be putting too much oil in the bike in the first place. It is possible to over fill the oilhead engine and suffer overfill bolw out of the excess oil. Then look and see the oil level drop and do the same again.
Keep the oil in the lower half of the sight glass and check very regularly while you run it in/ ride the balls off it!!
The advice to use a basic/mineral only oil until 12/18000 miles is correct with a change to synth. later not a bad idea either.
Keep away from those nasty addictive sportsbikes and ride a nice sensible BMW!!!!!
Pat.
