oil consumption ...

I posted last week about my Adventure burning oil ... I'm beginning to think the answers is "they all do that, sir" ( having just followed a brand new GS1150 down a mountain, )

However what would be the normal sort of comsumption you would expect over say 1000 miles. I assume air cooled motors consume more than water cooled?

oil consumption

Just returned from 1100 mile trip to France on 02 ADV 15K.
Topped up oil this morning. Almost exactly 1/2 litre. Seems a lot to me but then again we rode quite hard a didn't dawdle. Would be interested to know other peoples consumption.

Well, funny you should say that, but in about 1200 miles .... 0.5 ltr.

I also thought it sounded a lot, but my old ZX9 used similar. Strangely my 998s uses next to bugger all, and that is supposed to be a real high performance engine!

I have 3000 mile on my 1150 gs and have used 1ltr since my 500 mile service.

3800 miles on 04 Adv since 600 mile service. Used 935 ml Castrol GP. Perhaps I am not riding it hard enough.

Bought mine 2nd hand at 1500 miles. Now used 1.4 ltr of Castrol GP over the 4.5k miles I've done.
It seems to be using more now that when I first got it

Now at 5400 miles, about 1.5l of oil since 600 mile service.

They burn oil PERIOD....

and if you try and work out why it'll drive you nuts as there's no set pattern.

My 1150's done 46,000 miles and will or will not use oil for no consistent reason
