Evening All,
I'm getting sick of being stuck in London traffic on hot days with the GS's oil temp. going sky high.
Arriving at my house next week is an oil cooler fan and assembly for an 1150RT-P.

So, I just wanted to throw out a couple of questions to anyone on the forum that has done this:

1) Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 1150 RT-P;
2) As this is a fan housing for the RT-P does it require any modifications to fit the GS?
3) In my mind this sounds too easy to install. What am I missing?

It's too easy?

Sky high being 7 bars? When this happened to me, I thought the engine was going to expire! Are you running it on 20/50 & not 10/40? Sounds a lot healthier on the thicker oil.

the wiring should not be any different , i would say the mounting would differ slightly you will have to suck it and see :thumb2

where did you get the kit from ?

Yes, sky high is 7 bars for me as it's normally running at 5. Even when using 20w50 the engine sounds like a bag of spanners in a tumble dryer at that temperature.

I got the entire kit for £115 from Motorworks. Very pricey considering it's used but if it works then being stuck in stationary or slow moving traffic will be less of a concern and money well spent.

I've read some conflicting information regarding having the fan activate automatically. Some say wiring into the Motortonic is the right way and other say a RT-P specific sump plug has a thermostat incorporated and no fiddling with the Motortronic is necessary.

I think I'll play it safe and have it activate manually via a new switch on the handlebars - or can I use the Nippy Normans "special" indicator switch to activate/deactivate it? I can't remember what it's called but I believe it's used to turn on/off aux. lights.

When I had my 1150RT the space and fixtures behind the oil cooler looked identical but I didn't have this mod. in mind when comparing the two.
Hopefully I don't have to make too many modifications to make the whole thing fit.

Every RT i've worked on with a cooling fan has had a sump plug thermostat.

it'll be more than a bit tight fitting the fan unit behind the GS oil cooler.
