Can anyone advise the thread pitch of the oil cooler pipe that screws into the engine block inside the oil canister tube

I have after much swearing and lots of heat managed to remove the short pipe and want to clean the threads up to remove the remnants of the old Loctite before fitting the new long pipe

Measuring it it's 14 mm and from comparing it with a M12 x 1.5 pitch tap it appears to also be 1.5 pitch but want to make sure before I order the tap

Is there any special install procedure or do I just screw in the new long oil pipe in until the threads bottom out ?

Zooming in on the iPhone camera there seems to be something in the bottom of the hole , not sure if this is just Loctite and if so do I need to remove it ?

Thanks in advance

Taking a closer look after a thorough cleaning it’s just the casting I can see in the bottom of the hole :-)

So just need thread size please

Not wanting to scaremonger ,
That stuff should not be there.
That is THE main oil gallery and you should be able to see the drilling’s behind that crap.

It dosnt look right

The image makes it look like the dark grey sits proud but it is actually the other way - the dark grey sits below the small area that is machined so I think the casting is probably short of a bit material at that point hence why it isn't machined

I've just had a look with an endoscope and the oil way is completely free - in fact if anything with the casting being low at the point it is ever so slightly bigger

It looks to me as if the ‘obstruction’ is on the threaded part as the thread extends beyond it so was machined first.

I think it is wedged in the thread.

So just to be clear there is no obstruction , there is nothing on the threads they are all completely clear as is the space behind the threaded hole so the oil way is completely clear . What you can see is the rough casting on the inside of the wall of the engine casing with what looks like a spot face drill mark on it from when the oil pipe thread was drilled and tapped - I must admit I thought at first it was an obstruction on the threads but having now looked closely and inspected it with an endoscope all is OK - a trick of photography !

Endosxope, we love an endoscope

Brilliant bits of kit.
Mine's an Aldi special, bought on a whim and already proved its worth (pinpointing a plumbing issue, avoiding the need to hack chunks out of a perfectly good ceiling...)
