Hello,

I've just bought some oil in a strange looking town in India, its an imported oil from the uk though!

So it says:

20w-50 (its hot here) - made by tetrsyl ltd

API SL ACEA A3

But no mention of SAE.

Coz I am a bit fik in the heid, can someone tell me if this is ok or not?

Cheers

Yes, I googled it and it came out with that..

Now I'm still being anal, is it still ok for the 1150GS?

The 20W-50 should be the thing(?)

Can't think any other standards than SAE having those viscosity numbers.

Anyways, 20W-50 is one of the best into those hot conditions there in Asia. Mine run on the same in Iran +43C and the engine was on normal 5 bars :thumb

Thanks Tsiklonaut

For the info, I'm just being mega carefull about anything that I buy in this part of the world. I just hope that when I open it up, it doesnt contain Indian pee or washing up liquid.

:beerjug:

Hi Brian,

Should be OK as long as the container is sealed, most of the oil seemed to be 20-50. I always used to use Castrol GTX in India which always seemed to be available and was marked up "Castrol (India)" on the back of the can. I would be interested to know which strange looking town you are in.

Yep! Castrol GTX in Iran too, got a bottle as a "islamic hospitality" gift from local mechanic in the village, very poor guy but he'd share a last bit of bread with you. Still have the same bottle in the garage a bit left. The oil works fine! :thumb

Strange little town

Amritsar...I think - yes that where I was, golden temple etc.

Now up in Mcleod Gang - on our way to Manali - Leh road if the weather holds out - peeing down when we arrived here yesterday, really tipping it down, so out today in the market to buy an attractive poncho to wear on the bike.

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian,

You are heading to great area, although Manali is a bit over devolped now, Naggar which is just outside Manali is quiter. You may be a bit late for the Leh trip (I hope not) I went there in 1996. It was tough going because of the altitude and you often get held up for a few days because of landslides, facilities were minimal and fuel supplies were few and far between (may have changed now) There is a mountaineering society in Manali and they should be able to give you up to date info on road and weather conditions,

Good luck

Duncan
