Is it hex or torx , and would you happen to know the size ?

thx, hp

hex - its a metric socket head cap screw. dont know the size but my standard bunch of socket bits fitted without problem.

getting the filter on and off is a different matter though. have yet to find and economic oil filter tool (BMW want something like £45!!!)

Are you sure, I was leaning towards the torx fitting. I'll take a closer look today.

If your interested in a cheaper alternative for the filter removal tool I bought one from a guy who makes then in his shop in Vermont. The cost was about $30.00 US plus shipping. Excellent quality. If your interested I'll give you his co-ordinates OR you can do a search on the advrider.com forum.

My drain plug is an allen key fit but a Torx 50 will fit (as opposed to the other way around). I used a torx 50 bit for torquing it up.

DONE! I changed oil this morning using T-50. Anyone knew to the oil changing procedure

DO NOT OVER TORQUE THE OIL FILTER DRAIN PLUG !

I decided to do my last oil change after a couple of Heinekens and WAY OVERTORQUED the plug.... It was a very tense 1/2 hr. getting it undone today... even felt the threads of the plug giving way ! BUT I DID IT ! JOB DONE

Mines a T50 torx?!

Yours confused

Odd that. Mine definitely is a hex head socket screw (ie with a hole that is shaped like a traditional hex bolt head rather than the star shape of a torx). I was anal enough to thoroughly clean it when I did an oil change so there is no doubt.

Just been out to re-check.......and........erm........yes, it is a hex head socket screw - I stand corrected, sorry :(

A T50 does fit though ;)
