THis is a bit of a double post as I added it to a thread I started re: servicing in the Ireland forum.

Thought I'd post here as it's bike specific.

Basically I noticed an oil drip out of the engine today. It looks like it's coming from the area in the photo's below. Anyone enlighten me as to the name of that bolt it's dripping from? I drove around 25 miles home so I hope I didn't damage anything.

Common place for leaks - two new washers and it's cured.

Thanks Steptoe.

I got the workshop manual out and it seems to be a large banjo bolt for the oil cooling circulation. Is that correct?

I don't know too much about these engines, but can I assume that this is the engine oil being cooled? So as long as I keep a level of oil in the engine (measured by keeping an eye on the engine oil window) I'm ok to ride the bike until I can get it serviced? It's due a service anyway so might as well get this fixed while I'm at it.

Try nipping it up a touch. But don't be too severe, just a smidge. 22mm socket.

ok, i'll give that a go. Have a 22mm socket somewhere.

But the oils are the same, correct? So topping up the engine oil will buy me time?

Really appreciate your help. Was shitting myself earlier - thought the engine might seize on the motorway

If it's about to be serviced I would be inclined to leave it until then - just keep an eye on the oil window in between times.

looks like the oil is 'weeping' out rather than dripping - if thats the case then the amounts will be tiny and not worth a panic.

Its definitely engine oil btw.

cheers guys. Gave the bolt a 1/4 turn and it's definately slowed down the drip. Yes it looks as if it was weeping out, then forming a drip.

The strange thing this is that I just checked the oil - ran the bike until it got to operating temperature then switched it off for 5 minutes. The oil level is quite close to the maximum level where as the last time I checked it, it was half way. Strange. Could it be that I put -20mm wilbers to lower the height of the GSA?

Those washers are the same as one of the drain/fill plugs, I lost no oil when I replaced mine.

As i understand it, you will have less visible oil when you first stop because the rest of it still needs to drain down from the engine
