Oil feed/return pipe colour….?

Hi all,

I’m making headway with this 1150GS, but I’ve come across a quandary….

What colour is the long oil feed/return pipe running up the front-left of the engine?

I thought it was a sort of grey colour, but I’ve taken it off and polished a bit of it and it looks like it has metallic in it.

I then noticed that the upper mounting point, which is protected by the plastic alternator belt cover, looks distinctly bright silver….

Given that I’m going to clean it back and spray it, what colour should it be?

I’m wondering if it started bright silver (like the engine paint) but has discoloured over time.

Who is ever going to be down on their knees examining your oil return pipe

Never mind close enough to see metallic in it!!

Actually thinking about it, later models were the same as the engine a light metallic silver!

But still You might just be overthinking this

Call me…particular… it’s an easy job to paint it, just wanted to make sure it was ‘right’!

I’m erring towards hammerite silver (same as the engine cases will be) unless anyone can tell me otherwise!

Yes Just paint all of it

Actually I found a good brand wheel silver was a closer match for the sake of 7 to 10 pounds to have a look

And OF course NONE of us will tell any tales about you polishing your Oil pipe !!!

I’ve used simoniz 5-wheel silver previously, it’s a good match on early Honda engine cases. Big fan of engine enamel too, restored a Pan European frame and under seat petrol tank in black using that a couple of years ago, came up beautifully and is still immaculate. The silver wasn’t quite right though….too bright for me so used hammerite silver instead.

I just like things to be as right as they can be, given the time and effort I put into the prep. Couldn’t tell if it should be silver or grey, but I’m guessing silver now!
