I have had a slight oil leak from my oil filler, no I have got the parts through both the seals and the plastic ring, however I have a quick question, does the rocker cover have to come off to replace the plastic ring and the seal behind it?
I cant find anything using search although I am sure the question has been asked before, I just want to check before going at it ham fisted and regretting it.

Nothing has to be removed.

If you look at your replacement there appears to be a threaded section, but this does not function as far as I can tell.

I changed mine last week but probably only needed to replace the O-Rings. I was advised that the plastic insert may break when I was ordering O-Rings. :blast

Anyway, find something to fit the slots of the plastic insert and give it a few rotations, to ensure it is moving freely: Watch out for any crap falling into the rocker cover. I stuffed a lint free cloth in there and positioned it to catch any detritous.

Then, when you are sure it is relaxed and free to move, simply lever it upwards with a large flat bladed screwdriver. Go gently and you will see it begin to lift upwards, and then prise it up around its' circumference.

Dead easy, and don't forget to clean the mating surface when you install your replacement: Just push it down firmly and job done. :thumb

No, carefully lever it out.

is that careful cos it might break or careful because if it does break then somthing will drop inside?

I really don't have time to take the crash bars off and rocker box off, so if its likely then I will leave the job for a few days and put up with the slight leak.
If its just that it may break well thats not a problem as I am putting a new one in anyway

Careful so it doesn't break. Possibly taking the bike for a ride to warm the bit of plastic up might help. As will sticking some cloth down the hole in case the plastic does break into bits. I used as wide as possible screwdriver to lever mine out when I changed it.

Easier and quicker to change than write about it

thanks for the replies, best I go and give it a go
