just been away on my gsa (2011) and got back its used a bit of oil. got another trip at the weekend and could do with topping up.
what is the correct oil to use? cant find it on here

dont the 2011 modles have handbooks then?,this has been done to death do a search and sit down for a long read.

I had to ring Rainbow last week from Italy when my oil was a bit low (as it happens only took 250ml).

I was informed that if your bike was serviced before December they put in Plutoline 20/50 semi synthetic. BMW then moved the goalposts to Castrol Power 1 10/40 fully synthetic which is, ofcourse, a lot more expensive!

Hope this helps

Agree with this as Castrol Power 1 10/40 fully synthetic is what I was told to use in the twin cam.

Frankly, I'm amazed they let you out on your own:blast

Many thanks for your kind words after I'd tried to help a fellow rider.

OK....spirited riding in the Alps uses some oil. I think I need 20/50 semi, but a very knowledgable rider on a 30th Anniversary insists it should be 10/40 fully syth. Puts a doubt in my mind so the logical solution is to ring the servicing dealer and ask.

WTF is wrong with that?

In the real world, you can top your bike up with anything as long as it's black (ish) and slippy and it won't make a scrap of difference. It's oil in a ditch pump motor, not Uranium 235 for a nuclear reactor:blast

Yes, but why put in different stuff for the sake of a telephone call?

cant find it on here

Did you use search? There's hundreds of threads on here about oil.
Anyway, to save having to search, as of 2011 BMW recommend Castrol Power 1 racing 10w/50 fully synthetic for all DOHC boxer engines :thumb2

I never know whether these oil threads are a well acted out wind up or genuine!!

(Now if it was beakchat i'd know where i stand....)
