Hi all,

I have found one post regarding this case that was raised around 2011 but unfortunately couldn't find an answer to the questions asked there hence the reason of this post.
Please be gentle :).

Recently my 1150 GS 2003 (97700 miles) delivered a sign of oil leak into the air box. Box looks like it has soaked from inside out. First signs were only visible on the bottom left hand side.
When I've noticed for the first time I've took the drain plug out and get 3 full spoons of oil out. I am completely aware that it could have happen due to overfilling but I am kind of the person that will measure 3 times before I put a new oil in. Yes, I do the oil change after a ride when the bike is still warm, been placed on the site stand and thermostat is open allowing whole oil to come out from the radiator.

Overtime "leak" increased up to the top of the box (just before the air inlet to the engine). Yesterday after a 250 miles ride I've unscrewed the drain plug and there was barely 2 drops of oil in there so not a lot.
On the other hand there was about 10 drops of oil in the top of the box right after the air filter. I do have a K&N filter installed.

Can anyone please advise if this issue might be caused by a broken inner seal? I hope not as it's probably a pain to change but if so can anyone please provide some info about the procedure.
Or could it possibly be due to the blocked air vent?

I am preparing for the longer trip to Romania soon and would appreciate any advise that could help me fixing the bike before I go.

Regards

Normally oil blow in true breather vent from top of engine in to air box , there is pipe on the right . That normal and that why it's there, small drain plug for that reason on bottom left of air box, put bike on side stand and drain it , stick bit paper towel to soak rest. If to much oil then possibly engine was over filled. Check compression might be piston rings or valves on way out and its blowing pressure in to engine casing.

Quite normal, usually from slightly overfilling it with oil, don't worry, it stops the airbox from rusting :D

Why do you think there's a drain plug in the airbox ? Because you'd expect oil residue to build up from the crank shaft air being pumped through the crank breather.

Find something worthwhile to worry about.. A bomb at the channel tunnel type thought will keep your mind occupied.

I am not questioning a drain plug in the box at all and know exactly why it is there :).
I might be worrying too much in advance but simply the air box used to look normal and now is wet for last 2 months.
Just trying to prevent the bigger issue from possibly happening later on.

I'd rather spend my holiday on the bike than under.
