Oil in the new 17 reg model?

I have just bought a second hand 17 plate GS1200 with the new gearbox and was wondering what oil owners are using?

BMW have changed from Castrol to their own brand Advantec oil.

I haven't checked yet but guess it is premium priced rebranded oil. With all the problems BMW have had I don't want to risk my warranty.

I've got a 2017 TE and mine doesn't burn any. Neither did my 2016 TB.

I don't do my own servicing either but if I had to top up I'd do the same as you just to avoid all that potential weariness in the event of a warranty claim. You can get the Advantec on eBay for £15.00 per litre but I'm sure it can be found cheaper at various times.

There are many people here who don't subscribe to this approach and I'm sure they will give you the benefit of the available alternatives as the day progresses.

The BMW oil for the WC is a re-badged Shell, it's a fully synth 5w40.

Ask your dealer if they’d be prepared to use oil supplied by you. If so then go for Motul 7100 and enjoy a smoother engine.
My dealer has agreed to do this on my pre-Alaska service.
