I have a small oil leak that I thought/hoped was coming from the Oil Pressure Switch as it would probably be easy to fix. Having cleaned all of the crap off I can now see it is coming from this strange little round flat that is machined into the corner of the cylinder. It looks a bit like the flat areas on the valve covers where you screw in the cylinder guards, but it seems to have a small little metal something inside it. From speaking to a dealer I gather that this is used in the production of the engines or the machining of the oilways or something. Does anybody know what this is and how it can leak oil. And more worryingly how to stop it !

Can you post a pic or two?

This is from an 1100 but you can see one the same in the top right corner - the round flat surface with hole in the middle.

I see what you mean (though I'm not immediately familiar with them in my TC).

I'm thinking two things: a) is the leak really 100% coming from there! b) if that's a yes then it reminds me a little of core plus in them old motors if yesteryear!

Not sure if the solution if it really is coming from where you think. But drilling it out and fitting a new plug sounds like the answer, maybe? But it's the first I've read about on this forum.

Think you need an old hand... Steppers, Mikeyboy!

I thought it was 100% coming from the oil pressure switch. I cleaned the whole area and degreased everything and ran the bike a couple of times. It is coming from that hole. It almost looks like on the 1200 that there is something like a ball bearing or something inside the cylinder that seals that off so I have no idea what that even is or how it can leak from there.

Like I said it is not coming out of the switch. Yes I could put some putty in the hole but I really want to understand what is going on here and try and get it fixed correctly.

You mention 'hole'. There is no 'hole' in your photo of the 1100. My 'assumption' was that the oil is weeping from around the metal plug, hence my comment about core plugs.

I've also realised you're mentioning that you can see things inside this 'hole'. Kinda missed that, but you've drawn out attention to it again in your post above.

Honestly, we need a pic from your bike...
