I have noticed that the oil light on my R1100GS has stopped working. I regularly check my oil so I'm not worried about it running low, but would like it sorted.

I have disconnected the wire from the pressure sensor and cleaned it up, sprayed it etc. but it still fails to work.

Any ideas, anyone?

Try earthing the oil switch wires to the engine case. If the switch has gone, the light should come on. If the light remains off, try a new buld in the light.

BTW I wouldn't rely on the oil light to advise you of oil level. By the time the light comes on, it could be too late - always check the level via the sight glass.

Thanks Steve, I'll give that a quick try in a minute.

I never use the light as a guide to the oil level, I always check via the sight glass every couple of days.

Nah, took off the wire and earthed it to the engine, still no light.

I guess it must be either the wire, connection or the bulb. How do you get the bulb then? Didn't look obvious.

I've double-checked in the manual and it confirms that it is a low oil-pressure warning light.
But I guess excessively low oil levels and low pressures are closely related.:D

I was reading this last night....it is a low pressure light but it is possible to have high pressure and very little oil, somthing to do with the oil pump(?)...oppositely, there can be low oil pressure and plenty of oil....

On cars there are breather boxes that get blocked...do GS's have this device and can it get blocked?

If this light comes on, pray that more oil sorts it...
