Oil light staying on

Hi all,

I have an R1150 GS, with about 67,000 on the clock.

Just went in for its service and had all the oils etc changed. I did a 150 mile ride and near the end the oil warning light came home, so at home I let the oil settle and there was none in the sight glass. I added some 20w/50 oil (not a great deal mind you) to it to bring the level up.

No problems, I assumed it just needed a top up.

So, today I went out for my 35 mile commute and the light came on at the end (as I pulled into work) and I let it settle, but the sight glass looked full up.

I spoke to the chap a while ago at Cardiff Mottorrad and he assured me (without looking at the bike) that it was a typical BMW problem and that there was no issue.

My question is, what should I do?!!

Oil light

Pull the wire off the switch and see if the light stays on, if so is a wiring fault possibly under the left cylinder where the cable goes under a long clip.
dave GS.

So the oil pressure light only comes on after a bit of a run, and the oil is hot?

Seems to me it's either the sensor thats passed it's best, or the engine :nenau

Only time I've ever had the oil light on, except when the engine wasn't running, was when I pressure washed the bike :blast

Turn on the Ignition and ground the spade out against a cleanish bolt the light should go out if it does just order a new switch and fit it!If it doesn;t go out check for breaks in that part of trhe wiring but 9 out of 10 it's the switch

The pressurised oil works past the ball and up to the connection and makes the plastic brittle and a bad connectioon, eventually it weeps out and causes a leak!

Common Occurence

I'm not the most technical of chaps, but I shall give some of these a go, probably later on tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!
