I nipped to La poste tonight 10 mins each way on the DRZ 400 E when I got back the oil was pouring from an area around the front sprocket/gearbox output area.
The picture only shows 10% of the actual amount of oil on the ground as I had to move the bike before taking a picture, the rear tyre was slick with oil.
What is the worst case scenario ? and how do I go about fixing it.
Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

I think there is a raft of info on corroding shaft bearings on thumpertalk forum. I think it might be even stickied.

There's a spacer behind the front sprocket that sits inside an oilseal next to the countershaft bearing. The spacer corrodes, chews up the oilseal & allows the oil out.

Best soliution if still available is an aftermarket stainless spacer, new oilseal and don't forget the O'ring that sits inside the spacer.

DRZ oil Seal Failure

if it was mine I would
1) look on Ebay for a Stainless Steel Spacer for Drz out put shaft
2) Buy Output shaft Seal and O Ring
3) Pull of chain / front sprocket
4) Pull out old Spacer it should have signs of rust and corrosion
(beware o ring)
Use hook to pull out old seal
5) Clean up and put in NEW parts in Reverse order
and you should be sorted when you put in new engine oil
Hopefully you have done no damage to the engine from oil loss

I thank you for the advise the info you give suggests e-bay but i am having no luck nor is google producing a supplier is it me ? ( probably ) any other suggestions gratefully accepted. :thumby:

I'm a bit late on this; but it is common and the mods listed above should sort it. From memory the 2 screws were tight to get off so ordered up a couple more when I replaced my seal.

Best of luck.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in with info, the job is a doddle the most difficult part being undoing the big nut single handed. [you really need the bike on the deck and someone to apply the brakes]
Oh and take your time undoing the two phillips screws holding the seal retaining ring in place it would be a nightmare if you damaged the crosshead.
