Hi Chaps
Whilst out riding over the last couple of days or so I have noticed "something" catching my eye on the dash (G/S) but never quite saw what it was, until today - heavy braked to a stop at a junction and the oil light popped up - and stayed on for a good few seconds, then went out, but only after I took a deep breath, prayed and lightly blipped the throttle.
I cut my ride short and got back home and checked the oil level - it was nearly at the lower mark (but certainly within the range) so topped it up to nearer the high mark. Short road test now seems ok, or at least I cant replicate it again. The engine wasn't at proper operating temp when it happened earlier so am speculating that the lower level of oil, combined with the fact that it wasn't fully up to temp meaning a quantity of oil was hung up in the engine and not run back into the sump, and the heavy braking (or acceleration which was on the cards as well
) means the pick up may have been momentarily starved? Seems reasonable? I know the engine has been messed with (but to a good standard!) in the past so condition type and parts contents of the sump unknown.......
About 200 miles ago I changed out the oil filter checked the canister depth and renewed the white O ring which was twisted and allowing oil to leak past the filter plate (and quite possibly past the canister housing back to the sump bypassing the engine) so glad I caught that one, so I know Im all good there, but has anyone here had and similar experience??
