Temperature today is around 32 degrees and in a big traffic jam for the first time ever on my 60K 1150 GSA the red warning light for the engine oil pressure came on intermittently (showing about 7 bars on the oil temp RID) – when I blipped the throttle again it went out but on idle stuck in the traffic the bike was very hot and it was on and off – plenty of oil in the bike, looking for a bit of assurance that this is a temperature related quirk, all back to normal when out of the traffic and on the open road – any thoughts?

What's your tickover speed?

Maybe you want to use a heavier oil :augie ie. 20/50 :)

Fugg sake!! Better to turn the engine off and start it again if it gets to 6 bars or warmer! it won;t cool down magically but it's not slowly cooking from the inside!

At least it wasn't under load just ticking over I'd say the oil got kinda thin at that temperature

But seriously Kill the engine of you are sitting in a jam and you see 6 bars on the temp gauge!

They are Oil / Air cooled No Air = hot oil = lowered lubricative abilities of the oil!!! and maybe melting of the insulation on the HES!

P.s. I'd have a sniff at yer oil filler cap / hole, If the oil smells burnt get it changed!

False economy to leave it untouched!

Cheers Dr, no smelliness but will be changing the oil next week, before pushing onto Italy

Switch Off

I agree, just back from Croatia and temperatures often in the 34-37 area. I just switch off if I get stuck at traffic lights etc.
Also, as mentioned, make sure your using a good 20w-50 - I use Rock Oil Guardian 20w-50 Semi-synthetic:eek: - not another oil thread!!

Cheers...............Grizzly:beerjug:
