Oil weep from clutch housing

Bit gutted today as I noticed that there is a (very) small amount oil weeping from the clutch housing joint on my 99 1150GS. I assume from what I have previously read that this will be comming from the crank seal behind the clutch. The clutch is not slipping at all & feels perfectly normal. My question is. Is this anything to panick about or is it something that will "keep" a bit & maybe I can carry out a repair in the winter? Experience tells me that these things never heal up & get better but it would certainly suit me not get into this one out right now! The amount of oil is really very small & certainly isn't enough to cause safety worries reference the rear tyre. Also does the job itself need any special tools / proceedures etc. Any tips advice on this would also be much appreciated.

Pop the starter motor off and shine a small torch into the flywheel area.you should be able to see the input shaft going into the clutch.see if the oil leak is down the front of the gearbox( then its more likely to be the input shaft seal), or if its behind the flywheel it will be the rear crank seal

Dont know if this will help you but, my 1150 developed a similar thing, just a slight sign of oil on the gearbox joint on the right hand side after a long run. The seepage extended mayby a couple of inches down the joint at the worst. Thought I would wait to see if it developed. 35000 miles later it was still the same. No problems at all with clutch or gearbox.

Ditto that Panzer. Mine was first noticed at 22K by MMM at The Rhayader meet last year, now showing 61K no sign of any problem at all. As I posted some time ago, my guess is that in reality the seepage is just cack of of the clutch plate mixed with a very small amount of oil mist......Generally tho dealers are very happy to take your money for a totally unnecessary fix

Good to see it's still going Dennis, last i heard my old 1150 was still going with the leak too!

Thanks for your replies everyone - all of them sensible too - no mention of thicker oil or anything else of that sort! Guess I can monitor the situ for now.................... if not longer!
